Posted Apr 13/12 - High Hopes for Outlaws 2012 Pitching Staff

Sam Baumgartner, Cory Van Briesen, Jeff Miller and Troy Fritz

With the days and hours ticking by until the Outlaws open their 2012 campaign, the team has announced Troy Fritz as their opening day starter.

There are many question marks as the Outlaws enter their first season in the River Valley league.  Pitching was the main concern as the roster slowly came together.  River Valley League rules state that a pitcher must be as least 37 years young to pitch.  Not many people are aware of this rule coming into the league.  As this spring has moved along the Outlaw's concerns with their pitching staff have hopefully been put to rest.  I attended an early spring practice in Welcome MN and was able to watch Troy Frtiz and Jeff Miller throw a bullpen session.  As I stood there watching, the two words that quickly came to my mind were, "Holy S%*$!"  Both Fritz and Miller appeared to be ready for the challenge even at that early point in the year.

With many years away from the game, both Frtiz and Miller look to be the hope for the Outlaws pitching in 2012.  With the late addition of Sam Baumgartner and Cory Van Briesen already in the ranks, the Outlaws staff seems to be right where it needs to be.  There will be early tests for the Outlaws arms as many double header weekends are in the books.  Only time will tell, but hopes are high as the April 28th date with Le Sueur approaches.
