Red Bird Fans and followers
For the first time since the summer of 1949, 63 years ago, a Chanhassen Amateur Baseball team is headed to the State Tournament.
The Chanhassen Red Birds punch their ticket to the State Tournament with a 13-0 win over Gaylord in 7 innings. Justin Thompson pitched the complete game for the win. Trevor Vaubel took the loss for Gaylord.
All nine Red Birds scored at least once, with Malmgren, Thompson, Naughtin and Zach Swenson tallying twice. Kurt Jantscher hit a 375 foot solo homerun over the right field fence with two out in the bottom of the 6th inning to begin the 9 run inning for the Red Birds that put the game out of reach.
This is the first trip for a Chanhassen Amateur baseball team since the 1949 Red Birds made it to state.
NEXT GAME: Friday Night, August 10th, 7:30 PM, at Storm Red Bird Stadium in Chanhassen. Red Birds host the Belle Plaine Tigers for a seeding game.
The winner on Friday night plays the Jordan Brewers at the Mini-Met in Jordan on Saturday, August 11th at 4:00 PM. The Winner of the Saturday game gets a first round bye in the State tournament, but all three teams from the Region 6C playoffs make it to State.
Congratulations to the entire team, and especially to first year manager Derek Nelson who is making his State Tournament debut as a first year manager.
See you all on Friday night.
