In the opener of the West Bend Thunder 5th Grade season, the Waukesha Hurricanes started fast and then held on to defeat the Thunder 9-5 in 6 innings. After a slow and nervous start, the Thunder began to play solid, inspired baseball and crawled back into the game only to be slowed down by the game ending via the time limit. After being down 8-1 after 2 innings, the Thunder managed to outscore the Hurricanes 4-1 the rest of the way. Gavin Hinckley lead the way on the mound pitching a perfect 5th and 6th innings, retiring all 6 batters he faced in order. At the plate, Aiden Spykstra and Caden Bast lead the way, each walking 3 times. Aiden scored 2 of the Thunder runs to help support the Thunder offense.
Congrats to Noah Doedens (player of the game), Jack Miller, Kevin Lemens, and Joey Pettit, who all played their first game as a member of the Thunder program! Join us at the West Bend Little League complex Friday Night at 5:30 when the Thunder take on the Sheboygan Diamonds.
