Playing back to back games in a span of 11 hours, the Thunder 5th grade team was pounded by the Oconomowoc 5-0's Red 20-1 and then bounced back the next morning with a 7-5 9 inning victory over the Merton Mavericks.  An abundance of walks and timely hitting by the 5-0's lead to the Thunder falling behind early and a lack of patience at the plate and the lack of the timely hitting cursed the Thunder from coming back.

After finishing the game around 10:00 PM, the Thunder had an early morning road trip to Merton for a 9:00 AM contest against the Mavericks.  With no time to feel sorry for themselves, the Thunder jumped on top of the Mavericks 2-0 in the first inning and expanded that lead to 5-0.  Ayden Spysktra was again tough on the mound as he pitched 2 innings of no hit baseball for the Thunder.  The Mavericks never surrendered, making the score 5-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th.  With Gavin Hinckley pitching, the Mavericks hit there way back into the game scoring 3 runs to tie the game up and send it to extra innings.  In the 8th inning the Mavericks shut down the Thunder offense and Hinckley did the same to them, forcing a 9th inning.  In the top of the ninth, Kevin Lemens lined a single to left and lead off hitter CJ Henschel worked for a walk.  2 men were out and runners were at 2nd and 3rd when Lukas Broske stepped to the plate and ripped a shot into the outfield, plating both runs, giving the Thunder a 7-5 lead.  Hinckley shut the door from there, giving the Mavericks no hope in the bottom of the 9th to earn the victory.

With the victory, the Thunder improved to 3-6.  They will be hoping to reach the .500 mark this week with 3 games scheduled.  The Thunder play Tuesday at the Waukesha Blazers Black, Thursday at the Sheboygan Diamonds, and return home Sunday at 1:00 to take on the New Berlin Magic!
