Posted May 31/13 - Thunder starting to roll

Start playing good baseball, put the ball in play, and get on a run has been the theme the last week.  After the Thunder's 9-6 victory over the Sheboygan Diamonds the team is starting to feel good about themselves and each other.  With contributions offensivley throughout the lineup, the Thunder won their 2nd straight and 3rd in their last 4 games.  The Thunder wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring 4 runs in the top of the first.  Gavin Hinckley singled with one out and scored all the way from first on a Joey Pettit double.  Pettit then stoled third and scored on a passed ball during a Lukas Broske walk to make it 2-0.  Broske scored on a Sam Lemler single and Lemler then worked his way around the bases and scored on another passed ball for a 4-0 lead.  Pettit started on the mound and some sloppy defense allowed the Diamonds to score 2 times to cut the lead to 4-2.  The Thunder answered back with a run in the 2nd inning as Kevin Lemens lead off with a double and Caden Bast singled.  Lemens was thrown out at the plate  but Bast was able to score as Reid Woods hit the ball to the right side to drive him in for a 5-2 lead.

The Diamonds again got a run back in the 3rd for a 5-3 Thunder lead.  The 4th inning saw both teams score, with the Thunder scoring off consecutive doubles by Ayden Spykstra and Noah Doedens.  Sloppy defense again allowed the Diamonds to score 2 unearned runs off Broske for a tight 6-5 lead.  In the 5th, the Thunder would extend that lead.  Jack Miller lead off with a single, worked himself around the bases and scored on a Hinckley groundout.  Pettit then singled and went to third on a Broske double and scored on a passed ball for a 8-5 lead.  Broske would shut down the Diamonds in the 5th and 6th innings, finishing with 6 strikeouts in 3 innings pitched.  The Thunder kept the pressure on scoring a run in the 7th for a 9-5 lead.  In the bottom of the 7th, Hinckley came on to pitch allowing an unearned run.  The pressure was on when the Diamonds loaded the bases with a run in and one out but the rally was snuffed out on a terrific catch and tag for a game ending double play by Spykstra.  The Thunder, now 4-6 will be back at it Sunday when they face the New Berlin Magic at 1:00 at the West Bend Little League fields.
