Posted Jun 8/13 - Waukesha Walk Off lives up to it's name!

In the first two games of the Waukesha Walk Off Tournament in Waukesha, the West Bend Thunder helped the tournament live up to it's name.  In the first of two back to back games, the Thunder cruised to a 11-3 victory in a 4 inning victory over the Germantown Jaguars and then won a thriller in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 6th 3-2 over the Pleasant Prairie Predators.  With the victory, the Thunder earned the #1 seed in it's bracket heading into the Championship rounds on Sunday.

In the first game, the Thunder scored 5 runs in the first and never looked back.  The Thunder added 4 runs in the 2nd and two more in the 4th to help end the game via the run rule.  The Thunder offense was lead by Gavin Hinckley who was 2-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.  C.J. Henschel scored 2 times and had 2 RBI, Ayden Spykstra had a hit and 2 RBI, and Kevin Lemens had a hit and RBI to help the Thunder offense.  Sam Lemler started and earned the win pitching 2 innings allowing only 1 hit  and 1 run.  Spykstra and Henschel worked the final 2 innings allowing 0 hits and striking out 2.

The second game was a nail biter throughout.  Joey Pettit started on the mound and the Predators were ready from the get go.  The first 4 Predators all hit singles but the Thunder held the Predators to only two runs as they threw a runner out at home and Caden Bast turned a catch in Left field into a double play after he fired a strike to first in time to get the runner who had stranded too far off the base.  That would be the last hit the Predators would get the rest of the game as the Thunder pitchers limited the Predators to a single walk the rest of the game.  The Thunder were able to trim the lead to 2-1 when Joey Pettit doubled with 2 outs and Gavin Hinckley singled him in.  In the 2nd inning, Christian Ketter singled, swiped 2nd, and scored on a big two out double by Noah Doedens to tie the score 2-2.

The rest of the game became a pitchers duel.  Pettit piched the 2nd and 3rd allowing 0 base runners and Hinckley was absolutley dominant in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings allowing 0 hits and only 1 walk.  Hinckley struck out 5 and would earn the win in the bottom of the 6th.  Lemens lead off the bottom of the 6th and was hit by a pitch.  After a steal of 2nd, Caden Bast did a great job of moving the runner to third.  Jack Miller stepped to the plate and drew a walk, swiped 2nd leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out.  C.J. Henschel, proud owner of the "PeeWee Power" chant stepped to the plate to play the hero's role and play it to perfection he did.  Sitting on a fastball down the middle, Henschel absolutley crushed the ball, sending it far over the outfielders head for the longest single possible, scoring Lemens and allowing the Thunder to Walk Off a winner!

With the two wins, the Thunder secured the #1 seed and will play at 1:00 against a team to be deterimed.  The Thunder now have won 6 games in a row to improve their record to 8-6.  If the Thunder can win the 1:00 game, they will play in the Championship at 3:00.  GO THUNDER!!!
