The Thunder battled both the Sussex Jr. Hamilton Jr. Chargers White and themselves on Tuesday night as the Thunder lost 7-6. On a night that the Thunder collected 11 hits, 4 walks, and reached base 3 times on Sussex errors, the offense could not come up with the decisive blow, allowing their own defensive miscues to in the end, cost them a victory. The Thunder left the bases loaded 3 times in the loss.
After failing to score in the top of the first, the Thunder gave Sussex a run. Sussex lead off with a single and when the ball went past the outfield for an error, Sussex had a runner on third with no outs. A 2 out single allowed the runner to score to make it 1-0 Sussex. The Thunder loaded the bases with no outs in the 2nd but failed to tally a run and when Sussex tallied 2 more runs with the aid of another Thunder error, it was 3-0. The Thunder battled back in the top of the 3rd. Caden Bast lined a single and swiped 2nd base. Kevin Lemens lined a single with one to put 2 runners on. C.J. Henschel then singled to plate Bast and move Lemens to third. After a Henschel steal of second, Joey Pettit lined a single scoring both runners to tie the score 3-3. A steal of 2nd and a passed ball put Pettit at third and when Sam Lemler laced a rocket to short that Sussex couldn't handle, the Thunder lead 4-3. A Gavin Hinckley and Reid Woods single loaded the bases again with 2 outs but the Thunder could not deliver the knock out blow, allowing Sussex to stay in the game.
After a scoreless bottom of the 3rd fo Sussex and a scoreless 4th for the Thunder, the Sussex White team regained the lead with 2 runs. 3 errors in the inning were the killer as Sussex took the lead 5-4. The Thunder tied it and then took the lead with some key 2 out hits. Lukas Broske hit a clutch 2 out single to score Henschel who had walked and Broske scored on a single by Lemler to take the lead 6-5. Again the Thunder loaded the bases as Hinckley singled and Woods walked but again the Sussex White team escaped further damage. Sussex tied it in the 5th, again aided by 2 errors and eventually won it in the bottom of the 6th on 2 singles and a wild pitch for a 7-6 Sussex victory. Lemler, Hinckley, and Woods, the 5, 6, and 7 hitters in the lineup combined to go 6-8 on the night and reached base in all 9 plate appearances. Each of them had 2 hits on the night.
