Posted Jun 24/13 - Thunder Boys Win a Pair of Games!

In games played last week, the West Bend Thunder handcuffed the Muskego Warriors 5-1 and then crusied to victory 11-4 over the Slinger Owls on Sunday.  With the wins, the Thunder improved to 14 and 10 on the season.  In Thursday's game, pitching and defense set the tone for the game.  With both teams displaying strong pitching and defense, the offense did just enough to win the game.  Lukas Broske started on the mound and earned the win with 3 shutout innings for the Thunder.  It was the most dominant pitching performance on the season for Broske who allowed only 2 hits while walking no one.  Broske struck out 5 Warrior batters.  Ayden Spykstra followed up with 3 great innings as well, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 1 walk.  Spykstra struck out 4 Warrior batters.  Joey Pettit came on to pitch a perfect 7th inning to secure the victory.  Offensivley, the Thunder were led by a 2-3 hitting performance by Gavin Hinckley and a 3-3 performance by Noah Doedens.  All told, the Thunder got 10 hits and 4 walks in the victory.

Sunday's game did not start the way the Thunder had hoped as Slinger scored 3 runs off Thunder starter Sam Lemler.  Lemler walked 2 and allowed 1 hit but was able to minimize the damage as the Thunder also had 2 errors on the inning.  The Thunder came right back to tie the game in the bottom of the 1st.  CJ Henschel walked, advanced to 2nd  on a passed ball, swiped 3rd and was able to score on another passed ball.  Joey Pettit walked and after reaching third, scored when Lemler hit a rocket to short that they could not handle.  Lemler swiped 2nd and the scored on a booming double by Hinckley to tie the score up.  The Thunder would dominate from there as they allowed only 1 run the rest of the way.  Hinckley cam on to pitch and earned the victory with 3 solids innings on the mound.  Hinckley allowed one run on 4 hits and zero walks.  Joey Pettit came on and pitched the last 3 innings, shutting down the Owls offense, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk the rest of the way.  Offensivley, the Thunder scored in every inning but the 6th.  Henschel was 2-2 with 2 walks and swiped 4 bases.  Every Thunder player in the lineup scored at least once in the game.  The Thunder will be at home Tuesday night at 7:45 for a rematch against the Sussex Hamilton Jr. Chargers White.
