Posted Jun 26/13 - Broske's Bomb Ingnites a Thunderous Rally!

It didn't look good for the Thunder 5th grade Tuesday night.  The Thunder were down and didn't have momentum.  With one swing of the bat, the Thunder got all the momentum they needed, winning 9-8 against a very good Sussex Hamilton Jr. Chargers White team.  With Lukas Broske on the mound, the Sussex team was able to take a 4 run lead on 4 hits and a walk.  Broske would go on to pitch 3 more innings, allowing only 1 single baserunner through the 4th inning.  The Thunder woulld tie it at 4-4 with 2 runs in each of the 1st and 3rd innings.  C.J.Henschel walked, swiped 2nd and scored on a Joey Pettit single.  Pettit would race to third on an errant pick off throw at 1st base, later scoring on a Broske single.  In the 3rd, Ayden Spykstra walked, swiped 2nd, and scored on a Kevin Lemens double.  When Henschel followed with an RBI double, the game was tied.

Sussex would score 3 runs in the 5th and tacked on another run in the top of the 6th for an 8-4 lead.  Not ready to surrender, the Thunder came alive in the bottom of the 6th.  With 1 out, Jack Miller worked his way on with a key walk.  After a steal of second and a pass ball pushed Miller to thrid, Lemens delivered him home with a sac fly to right to pull within 8-5.  With two outs and the bases empty, Henschel was hit by a pitch and when the 2nd baseman couldn't handle a Pettit chopper to 2nd, the stage was set for Broske.  With runners on 1st and 3rd, Broske unloaded on a fastball over the plate, sending it over the center field fence and into the pond to tie the score at 8-8.  The blast gave the Thunder a huge momentum boost and the Thuder wouldn't waste it.  Sam Lemler legged out a big infield hit, swiped 2nd and scored on another infield hit, this time by Gavin Hinckley.  Suddenly the Thunder were up by a score of 9-8 with three outs to get.  With Hinckley on the mound, the Sussex team wouldn't go down without a fight.  A quick leadoff single and a wild pitch put the tying run on 2nd with no outs.  Hinckley recorded a huge strike out to get the first out.  The next batter grounded out to first, moving the tying run to 3rd with 2 outs.  A walk and steal of 2nd put the tying run at 3rd and the lead run at 2nd.  With Lemler making some huge blocks on balls in the dirt at the plate, Hinckley was able to get the Sussex batter to ground to thrid.  Broske's throw over was on the money, sending the Thunder to victory!  With the key win, the Thunder moved to 8-4 in league play and pushed it's overall record to a season best 5 games over .500.
