Posted Jul 1/13 - Miller Strikes out 17 in Complete Game Gem!!

Paul Oelrich was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's and scored twice in the Outlaws win over the Jordan Alers Sunday.

The Outlaws rebounded from last weekends close defeats with an 8-1 victory over the Jordan Alers this past Sunday.

Jeff Miller was the story of the day pitching all seven innings for the Outlaws striking out 17 Alers hitters.  Spanky dominated giving up only three hits and one run in his complete game effort.

Coming out of the gates quickly in the top of the first, the Outlaws loaded the bases with nobody out.  Sam Baumgartner led off the game by reaching on an error and Ryan Meyer followed with a single to right field.  Paul Oelrich coaxed a walk and the bases were juiced.  It looked as if the Alers would sneak out of the jam as their third baseman fielded a hot shot grounder off the bat of Mike Roth, stepped on third for the force and finished the double play by throwing home and clipping a sliding Baumgartner at the plate.  With two outs Jeff Appel then shot a single through the right side of the infield driving in Oelrich from second.  One run would be the extent of the damage in the first but the Outlaws would score in each of the first 5 innings.

Ryan Carlson got things going in the 2nd inning for the Outlaws when with one out he was plunked by an inside pitch.  Jason Beckett would then reach on an error moving Carlson to third on the play and setting the table for Chad Weirtzema.  Wertz stepped to the plate and drove Carlson in with a ground ball in front of home plate.

With Spanky cruising along and shutting the Aler's offense down, Outlaw hitters added to the lead in the top of the third.  Travis "Shooter" Schuett led off the inning by reaching on an error.  Sam Baumgartner then singled with Ryan Meyer following Sammy with a walk to load the bases.  Paul Oelrich then provided a big single driving in Shooter and Sammy putting the Outlaws up 4-0.  Miller struck out the side in the home half of the third.

The Outlaws were right back at it in the top of the 4th with Ryan Carlson leading off with a single.  Ryan then stole 2nd base and advanced to third as the throw got away from the Aler's 2nd baseman.  Jason Beckett then reached on a walk and it was once again time for Wertz.  Wertz didn't waste any time in once again driving in Carlson from third with a ground ball to the second baseman.  The RBI was Wertz's second of the day increasing the Outlaws lead to 5-0.  Miller continued to cruise setting the Alers down in order in the bottom of the 4th.

The top of the 5th brought more scoring for the visiting team.  With one out Ryan Meyer started the rally with a walk.  Oelrich continued to crush as he drove in Meyer with double over the center fielder's head.  The RBI was Paul's third of the day and team leading 8th of the year.  Not wanting to be out done, Mike Roth smashed his own double out to the center field fence and traded places with Oelrich giving the Outlaw's a 7-0 advantage.  One pitch later, Jeff Appel notched his 2nd RBI of the day driving in Roth with an RBI single up the middle.  When the inning was over the Outlaws were on top 8-0.  Spanky would strike out the side yet again in the bottom of the 5th.

The Outlaws would threaten in the 6th with runners on base as a result of Alers fielding errors, but no more runs would cross the plate.  The Alers broke through with a run in the home half of the 6th on an RBI single off the bat of Mitch Krause.

The top of the seventh would see three Outlaw's hitters set down in order.  Spanky finished the day with authority by once again...striking out the side.  When the dust settled the Outlaws left Jordan with an 8-1 victory and improved their record to 4-2 on the season.

Paul Oelrich and Jeff Appel were the leading hitters for the Outlaws as each went 2 for 3 on the day.  Oelrich drove in 3 runs and scored twice, while Appel drove in two.  Ryan Carlson was 1 for 2 and scored twice.  Ryan Meyer was on base all day going 1 for 2 with two walks and a run scored.  Mike Roth and Sam Baumgartner were each 1 for 4 with with a run scored with Roth also driving in a run with his double. Chad Weirtzema had two productive at-bats by tallying 2 RBI on the day.   Travis Schuett scored the other run for the Outlaws after reaching on an error.
