Posted Aug 17/13 - Jeff Miller Shuts Out Islanders in Opening Game of State
Oelrich has a 2 for 2 day with an RBI and a run scored....

Waconia- 0 / Outlaws - 3

It was a Jeff Miller show as the Southwest Outlaws opened their 2013 State Tournament play in St. Peter vs. the Waconia Islanders.  The Outlaws where the higher tournament seed to secure home field advantage on the neutral site.

Jeff Miller would establish himself early working a 1-2-3 top of the first with one strikeout.  With 1 out in the bottom of the first Ryan Meyer got the party started with a single and quickly stole second.  Paul Oelrich continued his RBI ways driving in Meyer with a single of his own.  With a gimped up hamstring Jason Beckett pinch ran for Oelrich and proceeded to steal a base of his own, moving into scoring position.  Mike Roth followed with a walk but was quickly erased on a fielders choice off the bat of Jeff Appel.  Beckett was able to advance to third on the put out.  Jesse "Muff Teerink then put the Outlaws up 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to deep left field.

Spanky would once again set the Islanders down in order in the top of the second.  The Outlaws looked to expand the lead in the bottom of 2 as Ryan Carlson reached on an error.  Sticking with the running wild theme, Carlson stole second base.  One batter later Sam "Bammy" Baumgartner made it a 3-0 lead driving in Carly.  One out later Paul "The Gimp" Oelrich would add his second single in as many innings, but the scoring was limited to one run.

Not much to write about after this point at the final score was on the board.  The 3-0 lead was all Jeff Miller needed as he dominated the rest of the afternoon on the hill.  Miller would end up throwing a complete game shutout.  Jeffrey didn't allow a runner past second base, finishing the day striking out 5 and surrendering only 3 hits.

The Outlaws threatened a to expand the lead in the 4th inning with Ryan Carlson leading off with a single and one batter later Baumgartner reaching after being plunked.  There would be no more scoring on the day for either team however as Miller and the Outlaws cruised to a 3-0 game one win.

Jeff Miller was the hero of the day with the complete game shutout.  Paul Oelrich led all Outlaw hitters going 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored prior to being lifted for his pulled hammy in the 3rd inning.  Ryan Carlson was 1 for 2 with a run scored, Sam Baumgartner was 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Ryan Meyer was 1 for 3 with a run scored.  Jesse Teerink had the other RBI with his sacrifice fly and Mike Roth reached base 2 out of 3 plate appearances with 2 walks.

The win allowed the Outlaws to remain in the Class A bracket and secured a rematch vs. the Prior Lake Mariners the following afternoon in Jordan.
