Posted Mar 24/10 - HOOVER BUCS SPLIT WITH AUBURN TIGERS

The Hoover Bucs split with the Auburn Tigers Wednesday. The two past state champions (2008 and 2009, respectfully) met at Auburn High School. During the first game, the first two innings were scoreless for both teams, but Auburn scored 2 in the third inning and 1 in the fourth inning. The Bucs battled back as their bats came alive and won the game 9-4. Lewis Hammond (4-0) earned the win after striking out five in five innings. Jonathon Whitehead closed the game. Josh Magee was 2-4, while Sam Gillikin had two hits and Scott Head had a two-run single that put the Bucs in the lead. The Bucs record improved to 20-10.

In game two, the Bucs took an early lead by scoring two in the 1st inning after Tyler Mims (2-4) hit a double and Michael Crump brought them in on a homerun. But the Tigers answered back by scoring one in the first and three in the second. Matthew Lord hit two homeruns against the Tigers. The Bucs were unable to put any more runs on the board and the Tigers won 9-4.
