Posted Aug 24/13 - Shakopee Ends Outlaw's Season With a 7-0 Shalacking
Robb Larson and Sam Baumgartner were both 2 for 3 in the losing effort...

Not much of anything positive to write about in this one.  A tired Outlaws squad returned to Prior Lake for one last game in 2013 facing a very tough Shakopee Chiefs team.

The Outlaws were the visiting team and had first crack.  Sam Baumgartner started the game off right with a single.  One out later Paul Olerich reached on a walk and one out after that Ryan Carlson singled to load the bases.  Shakopee's pitcher Bowman would strike his way out of trouble and end the rally.  Sam Baumgartner took the hill for the Outlaws.  Shakopee capitalized on 4 Outlaw errors in the bottom of the first to plate 3 unearned runs and jump out to a 3-0 lead.  The four errors in the inning were more than the Outlaws had committed in the entire state tournament up to that point.  Depressing....

A Jesse Terrink single would be the only bright spot in the top of the second as Bowman pitched another blank frame.  Sammy would keep the Chiefs off the board in the lower half of the 2nd.

Back to back one out singles from Ryan Meyer and Paul Oelrich in the top of the third seemed like a spark, but the next two Outlaws fell in order.  Once again, Sammy held the score at 3-0 with three innings complete.

Rob Larson singled with one out in the top of the 4th and one out later Travis Schuett would also single.  Try as they may the Outlaws couldn't break through with Bowman once again ending the inning with a strikeout.  Shakopee would extend the lead to 4-0 scoring a lone run in the bottom of the 4th.

Baumgartner led off the top of the 5th with a base on balls, but the next 3 batters went in order.  Sammy kept battling on the mound and kept Shakopee scoreless in the bottom of the inning.

Robb Larson added his second single of the day and found himself lonely on the bases as the only Outlaw runner to reach in the top of the 6th.  Shakoppe applied the dagger by adding 3 more runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 6th extending the lead to 7-0.

Sam Baumgartner finished his offensive season with a two out single in the top of the seventh.  The single was his second hit of the game and the third time in 4 plate appearances that he reached.  No other help for Sammy however and the 2013 season was in the books.

Sammy struck out 2 Shakopee hitters in going the distance taking the loss.  Not an ideal way to end the season for the Outlaws, but a very successful winning season was in the books.  Unreal how fast the days fly by and another season comes to a close.
