ARMOUR — Mount Vernon’s Cam Deinert and Nate Zens combined to strike out 15 batters to lead the way as Mount Vernon beat Armour, 7-3, in a VFW 15- and-16-year-old baseball game Wednesday in Armour.

Deinert picked up the win giving up two earned runs on three hits in five innings. He struck out nine before Zens came in and struck out six in two scoreless innings of work.

Dean Frey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Nick Miller also had two hits to lead the offense for Mount Vernon (4-0).

Zens, Deinert and Deric Denning all had a hit as well for Mount Vernon, which scored at least one run in every inning but the second.

Jared Herrman had an RBI double to pace Armour.

In the 13- and-14-year-old game, Mount Vernon beat Armour, 20-8, in seven innings. Mount Vernon improved its record to 3-1.

Mount Vernon will host Freeman on Saturday. The 13- and-14-year-olds will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the 15- and-16-year-olds to follow.
