Coors Light overcame some shady infield defense and suspect base running (Powers, multiple face plants; Umbie one face plant) with their bats, as they easily took down TPG 20-7 in the season opener.
The Coors Light offense was in mid season form, as they pounded out 25 hits over 6 innings. The top three (Ichiro, Nichols, Buff) in the order led the charge; accounting for 12 of the squad’s hits and 15 of their RBIs. However, the offensive output was widespread, as 8 of the 10 starters had multiple hits.
I Robillard (5-5, 2 2B, 4R, 4RBI) and Coach Voci (3-3, 4R, BB) both had perfect days with Nichols (4-5, HR, 2R, 5RBI), Buff Robillard (3-5, 2 2B, HR, 2R, 6RBI), Jim Antonetti (2-4, 3B, HR, swinging K, R, 2 RBI), Pete Robillard (2-3, BB, 2R, RBI), Smokey Wiener (2-4, 3B, R, RBI), and John Powers (3-4, 3R, RBI) all contributing to the victory.
Voci (1-0) had command of all his pitches and simply dominated the opposition, allowing a mere 7 runs over 7 innings. Defensively, Coors Light played okay considering it was the first game of the season. Always one for the spectacular, Wiener, made the best defensive play of the day; stabbing a line drive headed for open space in right.
Coors Light will look to continue their strangle hold on first place Monday Night at 6:45 against Moe’s Tavern.
