Posted May 12/11 - Wed 5/11, Coors Light outlasts the opposition, 29-25

The weather was the story Wednesday Night, as wind gusts of up to an estimated 30 mph greatly assisted both offenses.

Helped by a 14 run 4th (in which Coors Lt sent 19 men to the dish) and 13 base on balls (9 of which scored), Coors Light outlasted The Replacements in a tight game (tied at 22 entering the last frame) that could have gone either way; 29-25.

The Coors Light offense was in a word, spectacular; scoring 29 runs, pounding out 31 hits, and reaching base an amazing 44 times on the night (which has to be a record).

Brian Brown, 1st game this year (4-4, BB, 2B, HR, 3R, 6RBI), Pete Robillard, looking like preseason Pete (4-4, 2B, R, 2RBI), Joe Nichols (4-5, 2 2B, 3R, 5RBI), AJ Andrews (3-4, BB, 3R, 3RBI), Ichiro Robillard (3-4, BB, 2R, 3RBI), Scott “Savage” Umbrianna (3-4, BB, 2 R, RBI), and Steve “DJ Cowboy” Perkins (3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) led the offense.

Also chipping in were John Powers (1-2, 2BB, 2B, 2R, 2RBI), Buff Robillard (2-4, 3R, RBI), Bobby McCarthy (2-5, 2B, R, 2RBI), Ryan Ostiguy (1-3, 2BB, 2R), Captain Joe Voci (1-4, BB, 3R, RBI, DP–Pete), and Smokey Wiener (0-1, 3BB, 2R, RBI); as everyone in the line up reached base at least twice.

Perkins improved to 2-0 but uncharacteristically struggled with his control throughout the night, as the elements continually played havoc with Perkins’s in flight ball.

Defensively, the left side of the infield (Brown and Pete Robillard) was peppered throughout the night and made the majority of the plays.  In fact, Pete Robillard was so impressive, post game the media pondered as to whether a 3B controversy had developed…..an obviously irritated Voci answered, “Let me think about that for a second…..no…..next question….”

Coors Light faces their toughest test of the season on Friday Night when they face perennial A division power, Starrs (2-1) @7:45.
