Posted Jun 21/11 - Mon 6/20, Smokey! Smokey! Smokey!

Smokey Wiener’s epic streak continued Monday night, as for the 4th game in a row, the opposition failed to retire Wiener; as he reached base 5 more times to extend his streak to an unbelievable 16 straight plate appearance reaching base safely (via hit or walk).  Wiener’s confidence seemed to build as the game progressed, as even in the face of a growing crowd (all of whom knew history was in the making), he did not falter.  During the amazing run, Smokey has gone 11-11 with 5BB, 11R, and 9RBI (and has seen his OBP bulge to an eye popping .733).

And if that wasn’t enough, the kid also picked up the win on the hill (1-0); striking out two and keeping the Moe’s batters off balance all night.  He was officially charged with 16 runs over 7, but many of those came courtesy of multiple inning extending errors by SS Joe Nichols.

All in all a memorable night down at the ballpark, as Smokey easily picked up player of the game honors (playing perhaps his best overall game ever in BMSL play).

The 28-16 victory pushed Coors Light (8-4) into sole possession of first place, as they continued to tear up B division pitching (averaging 26R and 26H over their last 4).

Buff Robillard and late fill in Nate Horseman both had impressive nights as well, as everyone in the line up contributed in some fashion to the win.

Smokey Wiener, 3-3, 2BB, 2B, 3B, 2RBI

Nate Horseman, 5-6, 2B, 2HR (#1,#2), 7RBI

Buff Robillard 4-5, 2 2B, 2 3B, 5RBI

Joe Nichols 2-3, 2BB, 3B, 6RBI

Scott Umbrianna 2-3, 2BB, RBI

Steve Perkins 3-5, HR#3, 2RBI

Aaron Benedetti 2-4, BB, 2B, 3RBI

Ichiro Robillard 1-2, 4BB, RBI

Chris Washburn 2-5, RBI

Captain Joe Voci 1-4, BB

The 12 additional walks secured by the team pushes its season total to 81; 13 more than all of last year (29 games).  Buff’s record of 17 base on balls (’10) will undoubtedly fall, as the new strike mat continues to benefit the hitters.

Walk leaders:  Voci 12, Wiener 12, Ostiguy 9

The only downer on the night was the hang afterwards, where only Perkins, his kids, and Nichols reveled in the victory with Bud Lights; as Coors Light’s string of quality hangs came to an abrupt and screeching halt.

Coors Light (H) faces Central (7-4) Wednesday Night at 7:45, as the squad looks for its 5th consecutive victory and Smokey looks to extend THE STREAK (and by the way, the last time Smokey faced Central he was 2-2 with a BB).
