Smokey Wiener’s epic streak (18 straight times reaching base) came to an end in his final at bat Monday Night, as Captain Joe Voci was forced out at second base on a controversial call. During the streak, Wiener raised his OBP an amazing 219 points and bumped his average 172 points. Wiener finally appears to be reaching the potential that made him a Coors Light first round selection back in 1997.
Lost in all the frenzy surrounding Wiener’s streak, was a solid win by Coors Light. Consistent hitting/pitching combined with uncharacteristic solid defense, propelled the squad to a 15-11 over The Hive. The team’s fifth consecutive win moved them to 9-4 on the season and solidified their hold on first place, as they continued to beat up on their division foes (8-1).
The offensive production was once again a team effort, as nine players reached base at least twice and ten had at least one RBI (as the team average held at .600).
Joe Nichols 3-3, BB, 2B, RBI
Steve Perkins 2-4, 2B, 3RBI
Buff Robillard 2-3, 2B, 3B, 2RBI
Jim Antonetti 3-3, 2 2B, 2RBI
Ichiro Robillard 1-2, SF, RBI
Pete Robillard 2-3, 2B, RBI
Ryan Ostiguy 2-3, 2B, 2RBI
Scott Umbrianna 2-3, 2B, 2RBI
Chris Washburn 0-3
Aaron Benedetti 0-3
Captain Joe Voci 2-2, BB
Smokey Wiener, 2-3
John Powers, 1-3, RBI
Perkins was once again masterful on the hill and improved to a perfect 5-0 on the year.
Led by Umbie, Powers, Ostiguy, Pete Robillard, and Nichols, the team rebounded nicely from their worst post game hang of the year last week.
