Things were looking promising for Coors Light when the opposition took the field with only seven fielders (later adding an 8th) Monday Night. However, Coors Light could not take advantage of the gaping holes in the defense; as they left an astounding 14 runners stranded (twice leaving the bases loaded). The bitter defeat dropped Coors Light to 11-8 on the season, as they narrowly held on to 1st place in the B division.
The offense was in a word, pathetic; managing only 2 walks, 6 extra base hits, and a .538 AVG on the night against the shorthanded defense. The team simply would not/could not adjust their style to take advantage of the Moe’s three man infield (supplemented by perhaps the league’s worst fielding pitcher), recording a ridiculous 14 outs via the fly ball. Smokey Wiener tried to lead by example; putting up another 4-4 night and improving his team leading OBP to .743 (52-70). However, the Coors Light batters more often than not just did what they normally do.
Ichiro Robillard 1-5, RBI
Joe Nichols 4-5, 3 2B, 3B, 2RBI
Buff Robillard 1-2, 2 BB, SF, 3B, RBI
Jim Antonetti 2-4, SF, 2RBI
Scott Umbrianna 3-4, RBI
Bobby McCarthy 2-3, SF, 3B, RBI
Joe Voci 0-4, K
Smokey Wiener 4-4, RBI
John Powers 2-4
Pete Robillard 2-4
Captain Voci fell to 3-6 on the season, as he held Moe’s in check until the last two frames (when the Coors Light defense fell apart).
Coors Light (A/H) faces 3rd place Central (8-11) in a twin bill Wednesday @7:45, as the team looks to put their most embarrassing defeat of the season behind them. |
