Posted Jul 16/10 - Thurs 7/15, Coors Light falls in extras

The Coors Light offense showed off the power it had been lacking all season Thursday Night.  However it was not enough, as they dropped a one run extra inning thriller to rival Emma’s Thursday Night, 17-16.  Twelve extra base hits, including five HRs, weren’t quite enough to offset the 13 runners left on base; 8 of which were a direct result of Ichiro Robillard’s uncontroversial ejection (and subsequent four automatic outs) in the 2nd inning for a bat throwing incident.

After the ejection, everyone stepped up their game as Coors Light traded shots with the opposition in the back and forth affair.  Trailing 14-13 in the 7th, Buff Robillard (3-4, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, 2 RBI, SF) came through with a titanic, 2 out light pole shot to tie the game and Jim Antonetti (3-4, 4 R, BB, 3 HR, 5 RBI) followed with his 3rd bomb of the night (his team leading 8th) to put Coors Light up by one.  However, Emma’s was able to plate the tying run and ultimately put up two more in the 8th to take home the victory.  Coors Light now stands at 7-15 on the year.

Bobby McCarthy (4-5, 3 R), Jeff Stastny (4-5, 3 R, cycle, 5 RBI), John Powers (3-4, BB, 2B, 2 RBI), Joe Nichols (2-3, R, 2B, 3 IBB), Chris Washburn (2-4, R, 2B, RBI, SF), Smokey Wiener (2-4, BB), Ichiro Robillard (1-2, R), and Captain Joe Voci (0-4, go ahead RBI in the 8th, SF) all picked up their games and made big contributions.

Voci (2-9) took the tough loss on the hill.  The defense played fairly well, led by an outstanding effort at first by Wiener, but the outfield simply couldn’t overcome the lack of a fourth fielder.

Coors Light next faces third place DeGrace (14-7) Monday@7:45.
