Posted Jul 22/10 - Wed 7/21, Can’t get any worse for Coors Light

Last place TPG (4-21) picked up their second division win of the year Wednesday Night, as they easily defeated Coors Light 23-13.  In what has become commonplace this season, Coors Light (using a shorthanded lineup yet again) utilized poor defense, bad base running, untimely hitting, and lousy overall softball to secure their 17th loss (their 8th in their last 9 games).

The Coors Light offense hit well throughout the game, pounding out 22 hits.  However, the line up should have produced more than 13 runs considering how hot the bats were.  Bobby McCarthy (2-3, 2 R, HR, 6 RBI) earned player of the game honors with a solid performance at the dish.  Virtually every one else in the line up also contributed: Captain Joe Voci (3-4), Pete Robillard (3-4, R, HR, 3 RBI), Smokey Wiener (3-4, R, RBI), Steve Perkins (3-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, SF), Buff Robillard (2-3, BB, 2 R, 2B), Joe Nichols (3-5, 3 R, 3B, RBI), and AJ Andrews (2-4, 2B).

Voci took the loss on the mound and fell to 2-11 on the season, as the defense (despite another impressive performance at 1st by Wiener) played awful; led by John Powers, who continued to add to his already large collection of inconceivable misplays.  Battling Powers for worst single defensive play of the night (and perhaps season) was Pete Robillard, who somehow managed to knock a ground ball into the bleachers, which resulted in a ground rule double for the opposition.

Ichiro Robillard, injured early in the game attempting to field an unwarranted throw home by Nichols, underwent a series of post game MRIs.  Team doctors ultimately diagnosed the injury as a broken finger, which will keep Robillard on the bench for the remainder of the season.

Coors Light faces a tough road next week, playing the top three teams in the division beginning Monday @6:45 against Lincoln (22-3).  With only six games remaining, Coors Light is on pace to have their worst season since 1999 (their inaugural season in Bridgewater, 4-26).
