Posted Aug 10/10 - Mon 8/9, Keg (3-30 Pack) Champs!

Other than pride (and multiple 30 packs), Coors Light had little to play for in Monday Night’s finale against TPG (4-26).  Against all odds, Coors Light remarkably won its first game in over a month, snapping its season long ten game losing streak.  Joe Nichols’s triple in the 5th plated two and put Coors Light up for good, as the squad came out a 14-10 winner in a game that featured nine lead changes.  The win was the team’s 8th of the year against 22 defeats; their worst season since they went 4-26 in ’99 (their first in the BMSL).

The Coors Light offense was improbably lead by one John Powers (3-4, R, 3 RBI), who took a mere four months to get his bat going.  Powers, faced with the prospect of becoming only the 4th hitter in Coors Light BMSL history to hit under .400, came through when all the chips (cans of beer) were in the middle.

The team pounded out 19 hits in total, as the offense scored in every inning.  Aaron Benedetti (3-4, R, 2 3B, RBI), Jeff Stastny (2-3, R, BB, 2 RBI), Nichols (2-3, 2 R, BB, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI), Smokey Wiener (2-3, R, BB), Buff Robillard (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Steve Perkins (2-4, 2 R, 2B), Pete Robillard (1-2, 2 R, BB, 3B, 2 RBI, SF), Chris Washburn (1-4, 2 R, RBI), and Captain Joe Voci (1-4, RBI, backwards K) all made contributions.

Voci, battling back/kidney injuries and postponing much needed surgery, gutted out the win and improved to 3-12 on the season; his worst since his 6-12 mark in ’06.  Voci is now a career 103-77 in 11 BMSL seasons on the hill.

The post game celebration, cut short by the rain that moved in shortly after 1am, focused on the consumption of the 90 beverages given out to the best non-playoff team in 2010.  Led by Perkins and Powers (8.5 each), the team valiantly drank but came up well short of the intended mark; the final tally coming in at 25.

The highly anticipated and circulated season ending report card will be released over the coming days.  Additionally, a season ending cookout will be held at Buff Robillard’s at some point in August/September.
