Posted Aug 20/10 - Year End 2010 Report Card

Perkins: A-

Bounce back year for the BMSL veteran, even as he played through a hamstring injury.  His .684 AVG led all regulars and was up an impressive 260 points over ’09.  Perkins’s production rebounded as well, as his RBI increased from 15 to 26 (in only 20 games).  Perkins’s 1-7 record on the hill was a little deceptive, as the Coors Light defense was terrible the entire year.  His outfield defense was solid throughout the season.  Perkins does get knocked down a notch for missing a few games due to karaoke gigs.

Buff Robillard: A-

Another one of Coors Light’s few offensive bright spots in 2010.  His .659 OBP was 2nd best amongst regulars and was a career high.  Buff’s 17 base on balls were the most ever achieved in a single season by any Coors Light player and helped drive his OBP.  His power numbers on a per game basis were similar to ’09, though his production was down (driven mostly by the fact that there was rarely anyone on base for him to knock in).  Buff’s defense was not spectacular, but solid throughout the year.

Antonetti: B+

After a disastrous May/June, the sophomore roared back as the weather heated up and almost single handedly carried the Coors Light offense in the second half (hitting over .800 during July/Aug).  Power numbers were up over ’09 (and he once again led the team in HRs), but AVG, OBP, and production were off; but considering where he started, it turned out to be another nice year for Antonetti.  Perhaps Coors Light’s best defender throughout the season.

Stastny: B+

Arguably Coors Light’s best hitter throughout the season.  In his second full season with Coors Light, Stastny hit .629 (50 pts better than LY and 2nd among regulars) and drove in 1.9 runs/game (2nd best again).  Had 12 extra base hits in only 65 plate appearances (down a mere 3 from ’09 when he had 40 more PAs).  His average defense and the fact that he missed over a third of the games knock him down a bit.

Smokey: B

After a disastrous ’09 campaign (marked by multiple off the field issues: marriage and wife’s pregnancy) that left many wondering if he had anything left, the veteran bounced back and put together a solid year.  His .450 AVG was 64 points higher than ’09 and was bested only by his .515 AVG in ’04.  Smokey’s production was nothing to write home about, but it never has been; as anything Coors Lt gets from this bottom of the order hitter is a bonus.  The versatile veteran played solid defense at multiple positions throughout the season, including a 3-1 record on the hill (with a nice 12.33 ERA).  Perhaps most impressive though was high 86% games played number (considering his drive and baby at home).  All in all, a good year for the Coors Light Hall of Famer.

McCarthy: B

Due to the lack of a hitting streak, McCarthy didn’t receive the notoriety he did last year.  However, the end results in 2010 were remarkably similar to his nice ’09 campaign, as his AVG (3rd on the team among regulars), OBP, and virtually every per/game number mirrored last year.  Played okay defensive throughout the season; one of Coors Light’s better catchers.

Pete Robillard: C+

Pete’s .479 AVG was quite an improvement over LY (+63 pts) and his best performance since 2004.  Pete’s slugging was on par with ’09, but his lack of power still mystifies many (9 extra base hits).  He did manage to drive home 27 (5th on the squad), his best output in six years.  Defensively, Pete played good outfield but struggled when asked to man one of the infield positions.

Andrews: C-

AJ’s .471 AVG was well off his ’09 performance, as were his OBP, power, and production numbers.  Arm troubles hampered him defensively but AJ usually reeled in anything close.

Voci: C-

Battling through a variety of ailments throughout the season, the captain posted subpar offensive numbers.  His .522 AVG mirrored the team’s performance but was his lowest since ’99, as where his 5 extra base hits.  Voci’s two strikeouts during the season where the first two in his career.  His 3-12 record and plus 20 ERA were disappointing to say the least, but driven more by a season long, pathetic Coors Light defensive performance than anything else.  Voci’s acquisition of Washburn and Benedetti infused some much needed youth into the Coors Light line up.  However, the Powers’s free agent acquisition and failure to resign both Umbrianna and Theroux are what most will remember.

Nichols: C-

After setting a number of career highs in 2009, Nichols fell way back in 2010; experiencing his worst season ever in Bridgewater.  His numbers were all above the team averages, but well below numbers typically put up by the veteran.  Only player to play in every game during the season.  Defense solid during the season.

Powers: D+

Where to begin…..After an almost 20 year layoff, there wasn’t much expected when Coors Light management signed him in the off season.  Expectations sunk further after Powers put on perhaps the worst preseason batting practice session ever (who are we kidding, it was the worst).  His .423 AVG ranked last among regulars, as did his two extra base hits (which actually ranked last among anyone who put on a Coors Light jersey this season).  Defensively, Powers was a disaster; including making some the season’s most improbable errors.  A “player of the game” performance in the keg playoff (and his solid post game entertainment throughout the year) saved him from a failing grade.

Matt Robillard: D-

After earning comeback player of the year honors last year, Ichiro regressed, and suffered through a tough 2010 campaign.  The leadoff hitter reached base only 50% of the time and experienced his worst average since 2000 (.449).  Ichiro also broke his own single season mark by striking out five times during the year.  Defensively, Ichiro was Ichiro, with his strength being accurate throws back to the pitcher and working the umps.  Even Games Played, a historical statistical strength for Ichiro, took a dive.  As thanks to a broken finger, Ichiro played in his fewest games (22) since coming to Bridgewater in ’99.
