Jay Huggins has been a staple in the middle of the Coal Mines lineup. Consistently crushing baseballs and coming up with hits in huge situations.

Posted Feb 25/22 - Coal Miners excited to get back on the field

It has been a long 2 years for Coal Miners fans. After the pandemic cut short the 2020 season the Coal Miners were only able to get in a handful of Exhibition games against the Ladysmith Pilots last year. In 2022 they are ready to get back to a full season. General Manager Alex Rogers describes it as "a breath of fresh air" to finally be able to get back playing the sport he loves. The former Division 1 North Dakota State Bison is ready to get back on the mound as the ace of the new look 2022 Coal Miners.

The Coal Miners will be bringing back veteran studs Gus Wilson (Galveston College), Justin Clarkson (Midland College), Brady Rogers (Trinidad St) , Alex Rogers (North Dakota St.), Aaron Page (Taft), Bryan O'Hara (VIU), North Rainey (Otero College) and Dylan Moore. This group will be leaned on heavily for leadership and production. The Coal Miners are also excited to bring some young college talent back in the fold. Jackson Stephen (Morningside), Wyatt Dorman (Napa Valley), Nathan Thomasson (Three Rivers), Magnus Hanson (McMaster) Odhan Manhas, Aden Richardson (VIU), Jake Nikirk (VIU), Luke Shorting (Cloud County CC), Kieran Bowles (VIU) and Mackinnon Homeniuk (Lassen CC) will bring some youthful energy to the group and will be leaned upon heaviliy on the bump.

The Coal Miners will also be bringing back aging veterans Joey Sabo, Lyndon Shepherd, Spencer Walton (VIU). Jordan Rogers (VIU) and Provincial Champion Jay Huggins (Taft College) as well as young prospects Arjan Manhas, Dean Leyland and Tristan Dorman to fill out the squad.

We are also extremely excited to annouce that we have signed legendary Nanaimo Pirates and Malaspina Mariners Head Coach Doug Rogers to a 5 year contract to lead the helm for the Coal Miners. "We are ecstatic to have Coach Rogers lead our team. To bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to the Coal Miners organization is a massive win for our program. He is a winner and that is our main objective every time we hit the field. This team could care less about stats and personal achievments. We are all about playing for each other and producing W's, which we know is engrained in Coach Rogers personality" says Co-GM Joey Sabo.

Co-General Manager Joey Sabo believes the team will be extremely competive and is looking forward to how the roster will shape up for a hopeful 2022 Sr Mens Provincials which hasn't been played since 2019.
