Posted May 7/14 - Knights Start Out The Season 2-0

The Knights faced of against the Bombers this weekend in what turned out to be quite the battle. The Knights were riding in high after last weeks win over the Miners and were able to jump on the Bombers early in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs. Wes Drinkard got the ball for the Knights and gave the Bombers all they could handle for the first 4 innings of the game.

The Bombers were able to work their way back into the game scoring 2 runs in the 5th inning on some timely hitting and smart base running. But the Knights offense was just too much putting the gas pedal down scoring 2 more runs in the 5th inning and 1 run in the 6th to cruise to a 7-5 win over the Bombers.

Offensively Mike Speck has been a real catalyst for the Knights roster. Don't let the gray hairs or the tattoos fool you, this dude can ball. He has reached base every single time he has been at the plate this year and has played some pretty slick 2nd base as well. The Knights have also been very clutch in key situations for instance Lowell Douglass has on got one hit on the year but has 3 RBI's, Gary Lopez has only been to bat 4 times yet has scored 2 runs. If this efficiency continues the Knights will be in for a great year.

And hey, let's not forget the bullpen in this game. Jesse Lane came in in the fifth inning and gave the Knights 4 innings and 8 strikeouts of shutdown relief, Rolaids style. Louis Patterson came in to shut the door in the 9th. Overall it was a great game to play and probably watch. Tip of the cap goes out to the Bombers and their entire pitching staff for locking down this hot hitting Knights club.

Thanks for reading and supporting local baseball.

Posted May 2/14 - Rift in the Knights Clubhouse???

Recent AP reports have unidentified sources claiming that "Fist-a-cuffs" were thrown after a recent Minnesota Wild win against the Colorado Avalanche.  Nobody is really coming out and saying anything but the same unidentified sources have said that there is some beef due to the upcoming Wild vs.Blackhawks playoff match-up.  Due to our knowledge of the team's roster we can only suspect that Matt Youngquist and Luis Gonzalas went toe to toe in the match-up.  We have have Luis at 4-1 odds that he could take down Youngquist due to his naval backround and the fact that he is from Chicago.  Regardless of the odds Go Wild!

Posted Apr 29/14 - Knights Start the Season Hot!

The Knights opened the season with a bang on Sunday... and that is putting it lightly. Tip of the cap goes to the Miners for battling all day long and we know that is not how this season is going to go. Seeing how it was so hot in April, the Kentucky baseball season is a long one and there are many games left to be played.

Posted Apr 22/14 - Knights Season Preview

The Lexington Knights baseball team has been a mainstay in Lexington since 2009, but this 2014 version brings a new look to the LABL. The team came into the spring as the most unknown of the four teams in the new league, making them a bit of an underdog.   Even as this report hits the press, they still have some unknowns themselves because a group of college ball players will be joining the team once their college tournaments are over.  There are whispers of them lacking athleticism and pitching depth. While there is some truth to those rumors, this team is gritty, features solid hitting and a few arms with potential.  Assistant manager and pitching coach, Matt Roberts commented, "This team just doesn't care about the score, they keep fighting and have fun doing it." They finished the spring losing just one of four preseason games and showed they will be competing for wins on a game to game basis.

Posted Apr 15/14 - Knights Can't Finish the Miners

The Knights have made a reputation of getting out to an early lead against their opponets this year however the Miners jumped up early scoreing 2 runs in the first.  You have to give a tip of the cap to the Miners because they battled all day long.  The starting pitcher A. Lester for the Miners gave the Knights the business off the mound for the first few innings recording 4 strikeouts.  Overall the Miners pitching would record 11 K's on the day.  The Knights would battle back led by Jesse Lane who recorded 2 hits and 2 runs on the afternoon.  The 4th inning was the turning point in the game Bill Hill, Matt Roberts, Luis Gonzalez, and Joey Drinkard would all get on base to start the inning.  After that the Knights would go on to put up 5 runs in the inning to take the lead.  The Kngihts and Miners battled back and fourth until the game was called due to time.  The game ended in a tie but the Knights will take away some of the finer points and forget the bad.  Next up the Stallions.
