Volunteers will be needed in all areas of tournament coordination.


2009 WBC Volunteer requirements

 

 Takedown crew

Group to clean up following the tournament, remove items on the Sunday night, help with moving the ticket booths, picnic tables, fencing, general cleanup

 

Broadcast crew

Need camera people (four per game), with setup and takedown for internet broadband covering all 30 games

 

Front gate – two admissions gates, plus service/volunteer/teams entry (double-gate)

Minimum of four people (eight total, or more) at each admissions gate; taking tickets, making change, giving ticket refunds for those leaving early, and surveying people bringing in bags (no outside food/drink allowed)

Minimum of four people at service gate, with checklist of volunteers/suppliers, and to check team accreditation upon entry

 

Program sales

Two at each front gate, two roving through the stands, total of six/game

 

Security (main area; not beer garden)

Five “pairs” walking the inner grounds, from beer garden entry down the LF line, all the way around to the CF bleachers. Main concerns… smiling and providing info to fans as asked, keeping kids from climbing on the seating structures/car scaffolding, people trying to breach the fences, etc.

Two “pairs” walking outside the grounds, in parking, fence perimeter, etc.

Security watching over ‘Best Seats in the House’ seating area, chaperone guests to be safe from bats, the play, etc. (guests can only move during inning breaks)

 

Concession

Inside – food prep, counter, cleaning/supplies

Outside tables – orders from servers, supplying

Servers!!!!! Taking orders, pro-active approach in the main grandstand in particular (tips!)

Servers specifically for ‘Best Seats in the House’ and VIP areas

Cleaning/tidy outside concession and in eating areas

Condiments area

Supplying volunteer area

Supplying beer garden concession

Store runs

 

Medical

Accredited paramedics/First Aid attendants required at all times

 

Parking

Traffic direction

 

50/50

Minimum of four people, and preferably six or eight, working in tandem for all games… one pair in the beer garden at all times.

Administration/money counters/ticket rippers, two at least at the ready.

 

Grounds crew

HAND-PICKED BY WALLY FOSTER

Think “Pit Row” – speed, precision, focus on specific duties

Pre-game, post-game, and after the fifth inning give the field a fluff, with music

One person to be in each bullpen at all times; that person is to be fully versed in mound prep/tamping, to return the mound to top shape after each use; during down time and between innings, can go out and rake the warning track

One person to specialize in main mound; one person on plate flatness; two people on lining; four guys on infield dirt/dragging/bases; one guy on dugouts/garbages

Two people looking after ROTARY PARK practice facility – mounds, plate, dragging, lining, practice equipment; keeping in mind kids camps, etc.

 

Maintenance/cleaning

Minimum of two people to monitor garbages, washrooms (toilet paper/towels), post-game pickup

 

Host couples

One couple per team

Host couple to advise on things to do, places to eat… keeping in mind the sponsor list first and foremost

 

Clubhouse manager

Two per team – Clubhouse manager and assistant clubhouse manager

Look after dressing rooms, laundry service, tidying, “eats”

Advise on things to do locally, keeping in mind the sponsor list

Fully versed in the scheduling

 

Childcare area

Sign kids in/out, play with them, take them on bathroom runs, supervise, etc.


 Gameday operations

Between-inning contests, etc.

Music person, computer;  Main in-game announcer, assistant to plot/track sponsor announcements, and roving microphone announcer

Translation announcers

Assistants to help with fast, crisp promotions


Overnight security

One person, with car, radio and cell phone, to be able to walk the grounds, drive within the Carrie Jane Gray area

We will leave the park’s lights on around the clock

 

Beer Garden

Security

Ticket sales, serving

Concession, cash, serving

 

Supplies department

Move ice, garbages, concession supplies, etc., around the grounds; to work in conjunction with concession, beer garden, maintenance/cleaning, admissions, and the grounds crew if needed.

“Ready to jump” to help in any way possible

 

Merchandise

Minimum of four people at all times, helping sell programs, t-shirts and the like, taking cash, working with Up The Creek personnel

 

Transportation

Work with Northern Spirit Transportation, marshalling, planning, communications

"Shuttle service” for umpires, officials, etc. – visiting baseball dignitaries, etc.

 

Media Relations

One or two people; add another person or two to help with anything around broadcasts (running stats, security, etc.)

 

International protocol

Anthem singers/flag-bearers, work with Game-day operations staff

Flag-bearer for each team pre-game?

Translators, for announcing as well

 

VIP Lounge (main meeting room)

Minimum of two people, maximum of four (don’t want to overcrowd)

Service major sponsors, food, refreshments

 

Photography

To handle table/booth

 

Accommodations

Assistant, two helpers?

 

Poker tournament

      Need dealers for Saturday night (July 18) event


TROUBLE-SHOOT

A couple of people to “float” to areas… should someone not show up for their time, if we recognize a deficiency, or to provide break-time for others
