Team Information and Guidelines

Season Wrap -Up

The house season is now completed and what a season it was! Every player on the field improved dramatically and there wasn't a player who didn't contribute to the team's success. I would like to thank all of the parents who volunteered with keeping score, staffing the concession stands, raking fields, etc. A team cannot be successful without volunteers like yourself. I would also like to thank all of the coaches who helped me on and off the field. There were a great group of guys and the players enjoyed having them. www.leaguelinup.com/richmondexpress for up to date information regarding games and practice. COngratulations to all!

I have posted an article under the HANDOUTS tab titled, "Making The Team". It was written by a high school coach from the US regarding trying out for a high school baseball team. The coach has many good pointers for players in our leagues trying out for rep levels and Premier baseball. Be sure to take notice which of the items are highlighted more than the others.

TEAM NOTES

Phrase of the week: "Our DOUBTS are traitors and cause us to lose the good that we might win by FEARING to attempt." Rememnber, don't doubt yourself or your abilities. Take the field with confidence and belief in yourself and your team mates.

Keep up the good work, be sure to continue your work at home and we will have a terrific season!!!

JUMP ROPES: EVERYONE NEEDS TO HAVE ONE!!! Please bring your jump rope with you to every practice. If you notice, we jump rope every practice and I require that you have one. Also, please retrieve your 1/2 colored balls from the bag. You MUST be using these at home if you are to improve your throwing skills. I am making some specifically for the team to use. I want you using your own at home.

COACHES UNIFORM: Please wear a red shirt with navy or red sleeves.

HOMEWORK

For homework, I want every player to be doing about 5 minutes per night of JUMP ROPE, 25-50 ROLLIES and 5-10 minutes of 1/2 and 1/2 colored ball spins. I want every player to HAVE the following training aids to their bat bags.

  1. Jump Rope
  2. Rollie (see coach example)

Required Equipment & Uniform

There are specific items that all players will be required to wear during practices & games, as well as training aids that need to be included in their bat bags. Cooler weather will persist until late into the season, so all players will be required to wear sleeves under their uniforms and practices shirts. Here is a list of what you need to wear/bring to every practice and every game:

  1. Baseball Glove
  2. Baseball Hat
  3. Batting Helmet (if you have one)
  4. Spikes (runners if indoors)
  5. Baseball Pants and belt (or sweats/warmup pants for practice)
  6. Sleeves underneath shirt until told otherwise (no white)
  7. Jacket or Windbreaker
  8. Bat (if you want your own, get a -5 to -3 and purchase the best you can afford. ie., Stealth, Connexion, etc)
  9. Batting Gloves
  10. 1/2 & 1/2 Colored Baseball
  11. Jump Rope
  12. Rollie (see coach example)

The Richmond Redhawks are a house level, Bantam baseball team based in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada and part of the Richmond Baseball Association. We will be playing approximately 25-30 games over the spring season, with the opportunity to compete in the RBA Bantam "A" tournament during the May long weekend, as well as the end of season tournament for the Richmond Cup. Thank you for visiting our site and be sure to root on the Redhawks!
