We won our 1st game as the Sun Devils after a 12-5 win over the Monarchs on a cool night in Ricmond. Great pitching by Darren and Mandy led the way. Played real well defensively and hit the ball pretty well for the first game of the year. The Monarchs were pretty short of players but as usual played us pretty tight until we broke it open the last couple of innings. Next up the Stars.

After many successful seasons as the Royals the team has decided to change our team name to the Surrey Sun Devils. The current team would like to thank all the former Royals for setting the bar so high. The Royals were a highly successful team in the LMBA thanks to the original founding member Ray Edger. Although the name has changed all the former Royals will be remembered for their talent and success on and off the field.

We got a big playoff win on Saturday beating the Monarchs 9-7. A great team win with all 12 players pitching in. Jim pitched 4 solid innings and Wayne Hales came on in the 5th without allowing a run in 5 innings. Tom went 4-4 and caught great and Rick Tanaka was 2-4 with a pair of ribbies. One of our better defensive games of the year. We kept taking the lead and the Monarchs kept coming back to tie it until we pulled away in the 6th, a real good team to play against and a good bunch of guys.

Well we lost our 4th in a row on Saturday falling to the Eagles 6-3. Another good pitching day by Cam, Wayne H and Dave. Our runs against this year has been much improved but we just can't seem to get our offense going. Hopefully that will change Saturday against the Legends.

On a great day for ball in Ladner we lost 2-1 to the Stars. Great pitching on both sides as the game took barely over 2 hours. Cam and Wayne Hales were oustanding on the hill for us combining to give up only 6 hits to the Stars. Tom and Juice were also real good behind the plate stopping the Stars running game. We only managed 5 hits ourselves and the Stars played real well defensively and gave us nothing extra. Is anyone else impressed with Rod VanDorn continually doing what he does every Saturday !!

On a pretty nice night in Richmond the Monarchs beat us 8-5. A 5 run 3rd inning did us in, the monarchs hit the ball well and took advantage of some breaks that came their way.

Well after losing to the Stars and the Pirates the Royals continued thier losing ways on Saturday getting hammered again this time by the Legends. Thats six in a row after a season opening win. Most of us have been around for awhile and can`t remember losing this much. It is no secret we have been one of the better teams in the league the last 10 years but we set a team record with a 6th consecutive loss. We vow to start playing better and hope to get back to our winning ways on Thursday night. It is sort of like golfing with 3 guys that are golfing great and you suck it makes it lousey for the other 3.

The Royals dropped their 3rd straight game on May 31, falling 9-7 to the White Rock Eagles. The loss overshadowed a brilliant effort from Doug "The Stud" Whitehead, who pitched 3 solid innings and drove in all but 2 of the Royals runs. In one of the Stud's at-bats, the Eagles intentionally walked the batter in front of him (Greg "Stinger" Stang) to load the bases, only to have Doug clear them with a double. He ended up 3-for-3, all doubles. Dave Jones also hit a double, and Jay and Marke went 2-for-3. The Eagles turned the game around in the 8th inning, erasing a 2-run Royals lead with a 4-spot on the scoreboard. Next up: Delta Stars.

Well the Royals got kicked around by the Pirates on saturday 11-5. We didn't play that great and the Pirates made us pay by banging the ball around. On the plus side we hit the ball pretty good ourselves with 11 hits but couldn't put them together. We will be ready to roll next time we play them and hopefully give them a better game.

The Royals beat The Eagles on opening day 8-4 behind an outstanding pitching performance by Tom Lambert. The royals won on a total team effort and also welcomed back Ken Jones out of retirement after a 2 year absence.
