Posted Jul 25/14 - Red Sox withstand rally head to Championship

Perhaps this team is special were the words of Manager Scott Wisniewski after the Red Sox defeated the Cardinals 5-3 to head to the pony league championship series next week. Despite outside distractions and key injuries, this Sox team continues to win games and show off thier impressive maturity. Thursday night was no different. Stand out rookie Tyler Kube was a last minute scratch and the defense faltered a tad in a three run 5th for the Cardinals but the Sox remained unfazed, held serve and won the game on an amazing 8-5 double play in the seventh. "thats one heck of a team we beat today. You play that game 100 times and maybe both teams win 50" the skipper said about the Cardinals.

Posted Jul 24/14 - Red Sox take away Pirates hopes for gold

Motivated perhaps by his slide down the order, Robert Decker blasted two doubles and drove in six in the Red Sox 17-5 opening round victory against the Pirates on Tuesday night. Decker was the leader of the hit parade that included multi-hit games from Sam Cartegna, Mike Hartmann and Dustin Reck as well. The only concern coming out of this victory was the overall health of the Red Sox. Marc DiMatteo and Garrett Hollenbeck continue to have their playing time monitored due to injuries. As if those ailing sluggers didnt cause enough stress to head coach Scott Wisniewski, it appears that stand out rookie Tyler Kube may miss the second round game due to a worsening hamstring injury.

For 3 2/3 innings Wednesday night the Cardinals young hurler Jack Radomski kept the Red Sox bats silent allowing just two base runners (one via walk the other reached on an error). However in the fourth inning back to back to back two out hits, capped by a Tyler Kube double gave the Sox a 2-1 lead. The Red Sox would plate four runs in both the 5th and 6th innings and eventually pull away to a 10-4 win. Dustin Reck and Tyler Kube each had two hits and two RBI. Reck pitched a complete game and notched his sixth win of the season. Even though Reck only allowed just 4 hits, he struggled with his control walking seven but also tallying 13 strike outs. Posted Jul 8/14 - Red Sox clinch at least 2nd place

Though the daunting task of catching the first place Yankees seems to be an uphill battle against the calender, The Red Sox did guarantee themselves no worse than the #2 seed in the post season tournament with a 10-4 win over the Pirates Monday night at Wilson Park. It wouldnt be a Sox/Pirates game with at least the threat of rain and some early inning sprinkles had folks worried this game might not get in. That fear grew exponentionly as the Sox grabbed a 6-0 first inning lead. The skies cleared and the game played to its entirety. Robert Decker took to the hill for the Red Sox and tossed 5 solid innings. Tyler Kube notched the save. Offensively for the Sox Sandro Storniolo led the way with 2 hits and 2 RBI. The win hopefully will prepare the Sox for a tough regular season ending that begins Wednesday with the fully loaded Cardinals. The Cards will welcome the return of their returning High School stars. After that game the improved White Sox and the Red Sox nemisis Brewers stand in wait.

Posted Jun 20/14 - Wasted opportunities leave Sox and Yankees tied

The Standings in the Pony League remained unchanged as the Yankees and Red Sox ended in an 8 inning 1-1 tie. The game was cruising along and reached the eighth inning in less than two hours then the skies opened up and downpoured on Diamond one. Dustin Reck tossed a 2 hitter and was dynamic but had to settle for a no decision. The schedule doesnt get any easier on Monday as the streaking White Sox are next up for the Red Sox at 5:30

Posted Jun 19/14 - Sox Fit to be Tied against Brewers

The Red Sox tied the Brewers 9-9 in one of the more up and down games in the clubs history. The Sox trailed 3-0 before rallying to a 7-4 lead. On the way to that lead some close calls and poor base running decisions including a critical gamble by manager Scott Wisniewski. The Brewers tied it at seven all in the sixth. then in the same inning the Sox failed to walk Evan Potter with an open base. Despite that Potter hit a ground ball to second that was misplayed giving the Brewers a 9-7 lead. With the bottom of the order up in the bottom of the 7th, the Sox not only tied the game but had the bases loaded with no body out and the 2,3,4 hitters up. Posted Jun 6/14 - Cardinals grounded

The Red Sox defeated the Cardinals 14-1 in Pony league action on Thursday night. Starting pitcher Dustin Reck threw 5 innings giving up just 1 unearned run while striking out 10. Though Reck admitted afterwards that he had a hard time getting to maximum velocity with his fastball, that didnt stop him from allowing just 4 hits and not issuing a single walk. Offensively was where the surprise was. Mark Wood started for the Cards and he has always been a Red Sox killer, limiting them to just 3 hits in 13 innings last season. Wood threw 2 hitless innings to begin the game, then got touched up for 7 runs over the next 2. The Red Sox plated 7 more against the Cardinals young bullpen. The hit parade was lead by a few usual suspects as well as a couple of break out performances. Reck reached all 5 times recording 3 hits (2 doubles) and 2 walks by driving in 5 runs. Andrew Malek reached 4 times as well. The breakouts were Brandon Traner and Sam Cartegna who each tallied 3 hits a piece. The first 3 hit game in the Pony League for either player.

Posted Jun 2/14 - Only excuse for loss to Yankees is poor porformance

After the 9-4 loss to the Yankees on Saturday many excuses were offered up for the loss varying from the pitching mound to the umpires to the stage of the moon not being condusive to play baseball in. The only excuse for the loss was overall poor play and lack of effort. Shotty play in the field (4 errors) and an inability to get ahead of hitters (only 6 first pitch strikes in first 20 hitters) were the reasons for the defeat. At the plate the same old story reared its ugly head. When a strike throwing pitcher takes the bump against the sox, they allow first pitch strikes to go by without nary lifting the bat off their shoulders. Max Golden threw 19 first pitch strikes of which only 7 were swung at. The Sox had a chance to take over first but instead fall to 6-2. The red hot Pirates are up next on Tuesday.
