Posted Jul 9/12 - Jayhawks Breeze to State Championship
The Vancouver Jayhawks swept through the Southern Washington Senior Babe Ruth State Championship July 5th-8th at Louis Bloch Park in Camas, Washington.  With only one game not being stopped early due to the ten run rule, the Jayhawks made quick work of the rest of the field to earn a spot in the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament in Kent, Washington next week.

In game one, the Jayhawks defeated the Burbank Diamondbacks from near the Tri-Cities 11-1 to advance.  Izayiah Allen pitched the first three innings, giving up just no runs and striking out four.  Anthony Gardner pitched the final two innings of the game, allowing just one run.  Offensively, a big grand slam from Justin Rinta broke open the game for the Jayhawks.

In game two, the Jayhawks revenged two earlier season losses to the Hoquiam Hawks by dispatching them 13-3.  Jake Shelly pitched a complete game for the Jayhawks, allowing just three runs on five hits.  Offensively, Zach Smith led the charge for the Jayhawks with three hits and six RBIs.

In game three, the Jayhawks advanced to the championship game with a 8-4 win over Camas Granite.  Connor Atchinson pitched six innings to pick up the win before handing the ball off to Izayiah Allen for the last three outs of the game.  Will Pecson hit a key solo homer to help the Jayhawks seize momentum and pull away for the victory.

In the championship game, the Jayhawks exploded for 22 runs in route to defeating Camas Granite once again for the tournament championship.  Isaiah Block got the start for the Jayhawks and went the opening three innings before turning the ball over to a trio of relievers.

With the victories, the Jayhawks head to Kent, Washington for the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament where they will play for a shot at the Senior Babe Ruth World Series to be played in Weimer, Texas.

Posted Jun 15/12 - Jayhawks Underachieve at Castle Rock

After winning the opening game of the Castle Rock Father's Day Tournament this weekend against Hamer Electric of Longview 7-2, the Jayhawks fell short in the winner's bracket semifinals against Hoquiam 4-1, and then were eliminated in the loser's bracket against host Castle Rock 2-1.

In game one, Anthony Gardner pitched 7 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, while striking out five. Tyler Vea came on to pitch the eighth inning to pick up the win after the Jayhawks scored five runs in the top 8th to break a 2-2 tie.

In game two, Hoquiam jumped out to an early lead as the Jayhawks could only muster up one hit, a Connor Atchinson RBI single in the sixth, for the game.  The Jayhawks would leave 7 men on base for the game, missing opportunities for key hits all afternoon.

In game three the Jayhawks were eliminated by host Castle Rock as the bats once again went cold.  Justin Rinta's RBI double was the key hit for the Jayhawks, who once again left many men on base.  The Jayhawks wasted a great pitching performance by started Jake Shelly who threw a complete game giving up just one earned run.

With the losses, the Jayhawks fell to 10-3 on the season, 5-0 in league play.

Posted Jun 13/12 - Jayhawks Roll Past Aqua Sox

The Jayhawks sprinted out to a 10-1 first inning lead and never looked back as they defeated the Camas Aqua Sox 15-1 in a league contest at Fort Vancouver High School.  After surrendering a run in the top of the first, the Jayhawks responded with a huge bottom of the first inning in the route.

Andy Johnson pitching four innings, giving up just two hits to pick up his first win of the season.  Zach Smith relieved him and pitched one inning, giving up no runs and striking out one.

With the win, the Jayhawks improved to 8-1 on the season, 4-0 in league play. They will return to action this Thursday against league rival, the Vancouver Redbirds.

Posted Jun 11/12 - Jayhawks Sweep Prairie

The Vancouver Jayhawks swept a key league double header against previously unbeaten Prairie Hardball on Sunday at Trapper Field 12-2 and 2-1 to take over sole posession of first place in the league standings.

In game one, Anthony Gardner  pitched a complete game in the five inning mercy rule shortened contest, rebounding after giving up two first inning runs to get the win.  During the final four frames of the game, Gardner would allow just three hits while striking out five.  Offensively, the Jayhawks put on a show as they pounded out 12 hits, five of which going for extra bases.

In game two, a Zach Smith two run home run in the first inning was all the offense the Jayhawks would need as starting pitcher Izayiah Allen shut down Prairie for a complete game victory.  On the afternoon Allen went seven innings giving up just one unearned run while striking out six.

With the wins, the Jayhawks improved to 7-1 on the season, with a 3-0 record in league play.  They will return to action this week with league contests on Tuesday against the Camas Aqua Sox and the Thursday against the Vancouver Redbirds.
