EXPOS FALL ONE GAME SHORT

After losing to the Boston Pizza Yankees, the Expos needed to come out strong and that they did on Sunday beating the CV Echo Mariners in every stat on their way to a 19-3 win. Dillon Robson again led the way on the mound running his record to 7-0. Brian Rideout led the charge offensively going 3 for 3 with a 2B, 3B, and his 2nd home run of the season as well as 4 RBI's. That put the boys in the evenings Championship Game.

Unfortunately things didn't go as well as in the earlier game as the Expos spotted the Mariner's a 6 run lead and couldn't get it back. The umpires weren't helping either with some questionable calls and then eventually taking it upon themselves to end the game before it was finished. In the end, the Mariner's claimed the championship 14-8 but the boys had no reason to bow their heads. We were the youngest team in the League and we made one of the biggest impressions.

The Coaches surprised the team with a few personal awards. During the season, both Dillon Robson and Bryan Pawlina fanned 50 batters each and the Coaches presented them with their 50 K baseballs. Also due to the generosity of Chris Butler's family, the coaches were able to present 2 medals for Most Inspirational Players. Criteria for this award was hustle, players who always came to play, who listened to the Coaches and then tried to put it into practice what they learned. Another trait looked for was players who were always upbeat and never got down no matter what the situation. Chosen were Hunter Edwards and Chris Butler.

Big team thanks goes out to Mr. Robson for helping Coach 1st Base and Mr. Ireland for his tireless field work. Hope you all enjoyed the season and see you on the Diamonds next year. Good luck to Chris and Calvin in Bantam next year.........

PIERCY'S TAKE GAME ONE IN PLAYOFFS

18 Stolen bases later including 2 of home plate by Myles Powell and some great pitching by Dillon Robson and Brian Rideout were the story in a 16-3 win over the Comox Builder Astros. Brian Rideout went 2 for 3 with a sacrifice fly and 4 runs batted in. Bryan Pawlina contributed with 2 hits, 2 RBI's, and 6 putouts. Angus Ireland had 4 walks to run his team lead in free passes to 32. Other hits were recorded by Dillon and Luke Hirvonen.

Next up, the Yankees on Saturday night at 6:00 PM.......

EXPOS KICK SOME MAJOR BEHIND AT THE SKILLS COMPETITION

They started off by winning the Throwing Relay and never looked back. With coaches Dillon and the Killer B's cheering them on they blew away the competition in the throwing relay. Chris Butler then tied for the lead in the Pop Fly Competition. Next up, Dillon Robson came 2nd in the fastest pitch with a speed of 61 miles per hour. Hunter Edwards blew away the field in the throwing accuracy scoring the only perfect 20 point throw. Dillon no slouch came 2nd. The boys didn't fare well in the Home Run leg but scampered away to the team base running relay by a good 10 seconds. All in all alot of fun was had by all and the Expos had the best team turnout as well..........

EXPOS STAGE AMAZING COMEBACK TO EDGE THE MARINERS 18-17

Down 9-1 in the top of the 3rd and 14-6 in the top of the 4th, brian rideout keyed the comeback with a two run homerun in the bottom of the 4th on the way to a 18-17 squeaker vs the Mariners. The Expos tied it up with 5 runs in the 5th to knot the score at 16. The Mariners pushed one across in the top of the 6th to go ahead 17-16 and put their best pitcher on the mound. Chris Butler led off the bottom of the 6th with a 4 pitch walk then proceeded to steal 2nd and third barely sliding in under the tag at 3rd. Meanwhile Angus Ireland got on with a walk and advanced to 2nd on an awarded (where they just let you steal 2nd) base. Next up, Colin "Cookie" Orr dropped down a beauty bunt but the pitcher fielding it wouldn't bite and ate the ball rather than throw. With the bases juiced, Calvin Hirvonen drove one to the outfield to score Chris and tie the game. With the bases still loaded, Luke Hirvonen took 3 mighty cracks but went down swinging for out number one and the tension rose just a little more. With the infield at doubleplay depth, Myles Powell lofted a Texas Leaguer just over 2nd base and the centre fielder dropped the ball allowing Angus to score and win the game 18-17. They don't get any more exciting than that folks!!!! Dillon Robson got the win on 2 innings of relief and 4 K's. Angus Ireland, Hunter Edwards, Colin Orr, and Myles Powell also got their innings in with Angus having a 1-2-3 1st inning.

Now it's time for some fun with a skills competiton next Thursday and then right into the Playoffs next Friday with games at 6 PM Friday/Saturday 12 PM/6 PM Sunday. The windup bash is set for the following Tuesday at Bill Moore starting at 6 PM..........

PIERCY'S PUT ON GOOD SHOW IN CAMPBELL RIVER

The Expos put on a pretty good defensive show in beating the Campbell River A's on Saturday 9-8. Defensive gems by Dillon Robson at 1st and Hunter Edwards at 2nd base led to a 9 pitch 3rd inning in one display. Luke Hirvonen also pitched a scoreless 9 pitch inning in the 4th inning. Luke led off the offence striking for a double on the 1st pitch of the game, and the score would have been more save for some nice catches in the deep outfield by Campbell River. Other hits went to Bryan Pawlina with 2, Calvin Hirvonen, Brian Rideout, Myles Powell and Hunter Edwards. On the mound, Angus Ireland, Powell, Rideout, Luke Hirvonen combined to pitch the first four innings. Dillon Robson picked up the win and Bryan Pawlina got the save.

PITCHING CAN'T FIND THE STRIKE ZONE IN LOSS TO THE ASTROS

The Regular Season standings got even tighter if that's possible after Thursday nights games. With 2 games to go in the Regular Season, there are only 1 win seperating 1st to 4th, and the league lead seems to change every game.

On Thursday night, the Expos pitchers couldn't find the strike zone giving up 14 runs on 3 hits and 14 free passes while the defence pitched in and committed 7 errors. Offensively, hits went to Myles Powell with 2, Luke Hirvonen, Angus Ireland, Dillon Robson, and Hunter Edwards, with Bryan Pawlina picking up a pair of RBI's.

The Club will try to pull it all back together on Saturday with an Exhibition game at Nunn's Creek Park in Campbell River at 4:00 PM.

EXPOS MAKE IT 2 IN A ROW WITH WIN TO TAKE OVER LEAGUE LEAD!!!!

The boys came to play tuesday night vs the Yankees exploding for 5 runs in the top of the 1st on their way to a 16-6 win. Excellent pitching by Brian Rideout, Chris Butler, Luke Hirvonen and Dillon Robson combined with mostly stellar defense lead the way. Rhys Suttcliffe had a nice catch in centerfield and Luke, Dillon, and Myles Powell turned in a nice 4-6-3 double play. Kyle Brush scored 3 runs on a single and 2 walks and Bryan Pawlina picked up 3 runs batted in with a single and a double.

EXPOS FALL BEHIND IN 6TH ONLY TO COME BACK IN BOTTOM HALF OF INNING

Down 7-6 after the Mariners went ahead on a wild pitch, the Expos came up with some magic of their own scoring 2 in the bottom half of the 6th. Angus Ireland got on with a walk, then stole 2nd and got a free pass to 3rd on a passed ball. Myles Powell then hit a 1-2 pitch into deep centre for a triple scoring Angus to tie the score at 7's. Up next, Bryan Pawlina hit a ground ball to the right side but the Mariners threw it home to make Myles scamper back to 3rd. Bryan smartly took 2nd on the play. With Brian Rideout at the plate, Myles scored the winner on a passed ball.

Dillon Rideout got the win on the mound. Bryan Pawlina fanned 9 in 3 innings work and Andrew "Sticky" Stickney made his 1st mound appearance striking out 3. Angus Ireland tossed a scoreless 1st inning.

PIERCY'S POUNDS OUT 13 HITS IN WIN OVER THE ASTROS

Even more impressive was the tightened defence with the Expos picking up two double plays in this one. Angus Ireland, Myles Powell, Chris Butler, and Bryan Pawlina shared the mound duties with Angus picking up the win. Next up, an exhibition game vs Campbell River on Saturday at 1:00 PM.

EXPOS LET ONE SLIP AWAY VS MARINERS

The Expos let one slip away with one tough inning and then had to come back to tie vs the Mariners. Piercy's built up a good lead with tight defence and strong early hitting to go up 6-2 before the Mariners roared back with a 5 run 4th inning to go ahead 7-6. in the 5th, Angus Ireland got aboard and stole 2nd base. Myles Powell with a perfect sacrifice bunt moved Angus to 3rd where he scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at 7's. Strong pitching by the Echo's Marcus Drewry and Dillon Robson shut down both clubs the rest of the way. At the dish, Dillon had a 2 for 3 night to go along with 5 strikeouts and 0 runs allowed in 2 innings of relief

BOSTON PIZZA DOMINATES PIERCYS IN 12-5 LOSS

The Yankees dominated the Expos at every level in Piercy's first loss of the season. A season high 6 errors contributed to big run innings for the Yankees. In all fairness they did pound the ball and made some very sharp defensive plays. Lone bright spots were Brian Rideout going 2 for 2 with 2 runs batted in and Kyle Brush with his 1st hit of the season. Bryan Pawlina and Hunter Edwards also had hits. All 4 runs scored against Brian Rideout were unearned and he had 4 strikeouts. Bryan Pawlina had 3 strikeouts in a 1 inning releif appearance, Kyle Brush took the loss on the mound. After a good batting practice on Thursday, the Expos hope to bounce back against the CV Echo Mariners in their next outing.....

EXPOS HANG ON IN 9-8 NAILBITER OVER ASTROS

The Expos hung on against a late inning rally by the Astros to prevail 9-8. A 5 run 4th inning proved to be the Astros undoing in this tight affair. Hunter Edwards went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Calvin Hirvonen 1 for 1 with a RBI, Walk and a run scored. Rhys Sutcliffe went 2 for 3 and Dillon Robson had a double. Luke Hirvonen and Bryan Pawlina also had hits and Angus Ireland had 2 walks and was plunked in his 3rd trip to the plate. Angus, Colin, and Dillon shared the pitching with Dillon picking up his 2nd win.

4TH AND 6TH INNING RALLIES DO IN ASTROS

A big 5 run 4th inning and a 4 run 6th inning did in the Astros in a 14-6 win. Myles Powell with 4 hits and 5 Runs batted in led the way. New player Rhys Sutcliffe went 1 for 1 (a double)with two walks and Luke Hirvonen scored 2 runs, had 2 stolen bases and had his 1st hit of the season.
