| Game Notes: The Thunder pounded out 17 hits to back a solid outing by starter Spencer Pratt to beat Cretin Hi-Tower 11-3 in the second round of the state tournament in Eagan. Pratt (4-1) went six innings, scattering nine hits and yielding three runs with no walks and two strikeouts. Sam "Hells Bells" Foy pitched a hitless, scoreless seventh to seal the victory. Pratt was backed by stellar defensive play from centerfielder Casey Jacobson, who had a season-high seven putouts, and first baseman Dan Coyle, who had eight putouts including two key picks from the dirt to save runs for the club during a key stretch in the Cretin half of the third. Pete "Z-Man" Zukanoff continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-3, scoring four runs, knocking in a pair and swiping a bag. He reached all five times he went to the plate. Coyle added a three-hit day, with a double and two RBI. Cory Meyer scored two, drove in three and stole two bases; Joel Bertelsen had two hits with a run scored and an RBI; Andy Gensch ripped a pair of doubles, scored once and drove in one; Adam Shie and Robbie Sikich (SAC) each had a hit, with Shie driving in a run. Jacobson doubled and drove in one, and Pratt aided his own cause with two hits, a stolen base and a run scored. The club advances to day three's winner's bracket to face South Division rival Lakeville North, who beat Coon Rapids Wednesday. Righthander Adam "Iceman" Shie takes the hill for the Thunder, now 2-0 in tournament play and 15-5 overall. In other tournament news, defending state champion Minnetonka was upended by Shoreview Grey Thursday; the South Division is now 4-0 in tournament so far. | ||||||||||
