June 12-13 - On the Road Again...
Saturday - First game vs North Delta had TJ Mah starting, and pitching well, but the Astros are a good hitting team, and the Mustangs fell 12-3.
In the afternoon game Zach Diewert got the start vs Tri-City, and the Mustangs overcame a couple of early errors that led to two first inning runs. The Mustangs prevailed 6-3 to snap a long winless streak of 15 games. Ryan Aughey came in to get the last 5 outs and earn the save. Shawn Arabsky made a great diving catch in left field in the bottom of the sixth to help preserve the victory.
In Sundays action, the Mustangs fell 8-2 to Richmond, in a game that was close early on. Adam Sakuma pitched very well before turning it over to Max Winter and Ryan Aughey.
June 5, 2010
The hi-flying Cloverdale Spurs came to Chemainus for a double header on Saturday. The Spurs are in second place in the league at 16 wins and 3 losses. Ryan Aughey pitched his best game of the season in holding the Spurs to 4 runs. The team unfortunately could not plate any runners and the Mustangs fell 4-0, but really played well.
In the late game, Zach Diewert took the hill and pitched well for four plus innings holding the Spurs to 2 runs. The Mustangs took the lead in the top of the 4th on a two-out, 2 RBI double from Zach Komst. The bottom of the 5th turned out to be the teams undoing. Shortstop Dustin Jordan was injured and some defensive changes had to be made. Cloverdale took advantage of a couple of errors, and walks and scored 10 runs in the inning. The game ended with the Spurs winning 13-3. Despite the loss, the team played exceptionally well for all but one inning.
Next week, the Mustangs are back on the road with games against North Delta and Tri-Cities on Saturday, and a rematch with Richmond on Sunday.

Getting closer... The team played two good games against the Richmond Chuckers - Falling 6-3 and 11-2
May 23, 2010
A much better performance on Sunday for the Mustangs against a very tough and experienced North Delta Astros squad. The Astros are a hard-hitting club and the Mustangs just couldn't match the offensive output as we couldn't get the key hits when we needed them. The players are picking up some valuable experience and learning to play hard on every pitch.
Ryan Aughey started the first game and Zach Diewert started the afternoon game.
Next up: The Richmond Chuckers on Saturday, May 29, 2010. Game times are 12:00 and 3:00pm.
May 15, 2010
Ouch! Welcome to the big leagues. Pretty hard to sugar-coat this one. The team was beaten soundly by the first place Vancouver Mounties 18-2, and 19-1.
Next up, the North Delta Astros - Sunday May 23, 2010
Note the start times have been changed to 10:00am and 1:00pm.
May 1-2, 2010.
Another back-to-back Double header weekend, this time against 4 different teams. Saturday in Abbotsford and Sunday in Burnaby.
In the Saturday games, we started against the Okanagan A's, and Ryan Aughey got the start on the mound, and threw 85 pitches into the 6th inning. The boys battled to a 4-4 going into the 7th inning, when the A's scored 4, to win the game 8-4.
Next up was the Abbotsford Angels, and Zach Diewert got his second start against the Angels. Zach threw 93 pitches, going 5 2/3 innings, with the team hanging on to a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the 7th. The Angels scored on a base hit to send the Mustangs to their second tough loss of the day.
Shawn Arabsky had a stellar day in field, stopping everything that came his way.
On Sunday, the Kamloops Riverdogs came down to Burnaby for a rematch, and Trizden Abram took the hill for the Mustangs. It was a real pitchers duel with Kamloops eventually getting the 3-2 win. Trizden went 5 2/3, and threw to the 95 pitch limit.
On Sunday afternoon, TJ Mah got the start in the rain against the home team, hard-hitting Burnaby. TJ went the distance, and the game was called after 5 innings due to weather with Burnaby ahead 10-0.
The team battled hard all weekend in 3 very close losses.
April 17-18, 2010.
The Mustangs had a great weekend on their first road-trip to Vancouver where they played 4 games at Kensington Park in Burnaby.
The competition was tough, but the Mustangs managed to pick up two wins, while losing two games.
On Saturday in Game 1, vs. the Kamloops Riverdogs, Zach Diewert picked up the win with 6 strong innings pitched, while knocking in a couple of runs in the bottom of the 6th as well. TJ Mah pitched the 7th and the Mustangs went on to win 7-3. Matt Tomandl made a couple of fine catches in left field.
The afternoon game was a tough fought 8-7 victory with the Mustangs getting out to a 5-0 lead by manufacturing runs with great execution against some tough pitching. Trizden Abrams led the Mustangs by pitching the team to a strong start. Ryan Aughey picked up where Trizden left off, before turning it over to Adam Sakuma and TJ. The Riverdogs battled back to pull within a run late in the game, but the Mustangs were able to get to the Kamloops bullpen and pulled ahead again by three runs in the top of the 7th. TJ came in to pitch the bottom of the 7th and record the save as the Mustangs won 8-7.
On the day, the team played very well defensively, with Dustin Jordan, TJ Mah, and Shawn Arabsky turning most of the ground balls to the middle infield into outs. Jesse Knoop and Zach Diewert played the hot corner at 3rd and Trizden Abram and Max Winter held down first base. Zack Komst and, and Adam Sakuma helped Matt Tomandl, and Ryan Aughey in the outfield. Landon Bodger held down heme plate for all four games over the weekend.
In Sundays games, the Mustangs were facing the Okanagan A's where Max Winter started the game pitching for the Mustangs against a veteran team from the interior and battled hard. Matt Tomandl pitched 4 good innings in relief. The Mustangs fought a game fight against strong pitching and went down to a 13-3 defeat.
In the late game Sunday, it was once again pitching by committee, as Trizden started before handing it over to Jesse Knoop, and Adam Sakuma. Zack Komst hit a ball that nearly cleared the fence in left-center to drive in a run, and Max Winter soon followed up with ball hit to the same gap. Ryan Aughey made a couple of stellar catches in center field to keep the game close. The Mustangs were down by 3 early, but battled back to tie the game late at 6-6. Okanagan went ahead by two runs in the bottom of the 5th. In the top of the 6th, with the tying run in scoring position at second base, the Okanagan first baseman made a great diving play to snag a sharply hit ground ball and flipped the throw to first to beat out the runner, and ending the comeback.
All in all, it was a great weekend and the kids played very well, and had a lot of fun along the way.
The Mustangs will practice up and next play on the road again in Abbotsford on Saturday May 1, vs. Abbotsford and Okanagan and on Sunday May 2 vs. Kamloops and Burnaby.
