After clinching second place with a win in Richmond to end the regular season, the Buzzards will meet the White Rock Legends Saturday Sept. 7th at 2 p.m. in South Surrey. The other LMBA 45+ semi, has the W.Rock Eagles taking on the Burnaby Royales. Buzz are resting this week, but will practise Wednesday Sept. 4 at 6 o'clock at Central.
The stage is set for a battle for second place with Richmond at Latrace, after the Buzz cameup with a 6-4 win over the Legends in the rematch Tuesday in South Surrey. Ward pitched 5 shutout innings, as the Buzz built a 6-0 lead, and Tony and Kevin combined in relief to preserve the W, as a Legends late inning rally fell short. Nice to see a full bench again, with 14 , after the scarce buzzard lineup the previous game. Good luck in Richmond boys, you can do 'er, with a chance for a bye into the semi-final playoffs.
A small band of Buzzards battled hard in a 9-6 loss to the Legends Saturday morning in South Surrey. All the Buzz runs came in the first inning, powered by a grand slam to center off the bat of Keith Robertson, but we could score no more. Keith's homerun is the first non-Courtenay Buzzard dinger in a a few years.(since Klaus ?) Tony and Kevin were battery mates the entire way, Tony started, then did the switcheroo with K.G. They pitched well enough to keep us in it, but again, no production after the fast start. Thanks to the Legends for accomodating our low numbers, so we could at least have a real ballgame, it was fun. Not sure we want to play with 2 OF's in the late innings too often though, thanks anyway. Ah well, It kept Wardo and Lee busy. Looking forward to the rematch Tuesday night.
The Buzzards celebrated the gala LMBA 20th anniversary weekend, by defeating the Delta Stars 12-3 in South Surrey. Pitching was impressive, Kevin G. K'd 6 (including the side in order in the 4th), and Tony closed with 2 solid innings on the hill to preserve the big lead. Offensively it was well spread around, Jimmy Romer and Dave Mac each had two hits and scored twice, Mike reached 3 times and came around twice, Ward got on base consistently, Darren had 2 ribbies and a good defensive play, Keith R. chipped in with a pair of basehits. The Buzzards improve to 9-6 as we battle for playoff positioning in the LMBA 45+. Kudos to Commish Taylor and all the teams taking part in the anniversary festivities in S.Surrey.
Well, we put ourselves in a hole and were behind 6 -0 going into the boottom of the 5th. Doug S. was pitching a good ballgame for the Eagles, but we were able to get a couple of runs to get it closer! Then.........a new chucker came in in the 6th.........aaaahhh....Howard AKA "The Waiter" .....and he started serving our lineup with juicy, made to order menu items right down the middle of the dish!!! Needless to say...we were very happy customers to be served by a very attentive waiter. I feel bad that we didn't leave a tip......but we were very grateful! Thanks Howard!
