With the weather finally cooperating, the Red Sox travelled to the depths of Ladner to face off against the defending LMBA Champs.  The good guys started stud lefty Jordan Peever on the mound, and with only 1 umpire, the battle began.  The first couple innings started great for the guys in red, as the Sox worked the rival pitcher, causing him to hit 2 guys in a row, and walk one after that, after a close play at home, and a couple stolen bases, Hot Karl would break the scoreless drought, scoring on a passball putting the good guys up by 1.  Lefty Peever continued to dominate the bewildered Padres hitters, and with some stud defensive plays by a number of Red Sox fielders, took the lead into the 4th.  However the Padres would attack, and with some disgusting umpiring again! The Padres would take a 4 - 1 lead.  With tons of game still left to play, the Red Sox would look to righty Kyle Labine to shut down the Padres hitters, and lead the team to a comeback.  With Josh Karl, Adam Nordby, and Trevor Horn all falling to injury,  the Sox had their back against the wall, and to make things worse cupid made an appearance and shot his love arrow at the direction of the homeplate umpire and opposing team catcher, resulting in a game full of disgusting comments that would make Van Gogh think twice about lopping off his own ear.  All and all the Sox could not make up the comeback leaving into question when their bats are going to wake up?

On Sunday the boys in red ventured out to the great unknown otherwise reffered to as Maple Ridge.  With a shortened squad due to the absence of their beloved coach, the Red Sox faced the undefeated Jerks for the first time this season.  Having not been at the game, the following might not be completely accurate, but I'm going to give it my best shot to properly explain what occured on that cloudy day. Hot Karl was geared up to battle the Jerks in the Sunday showdown but had to leave suddenly before the team took the field, bringing into question his manhood.  So with 9 guys the boys in Red put righty Kyle Labine on the mound, and stud hungover catcher Trevor Horn.  The duo would prove effective despite the catchers temporary handicap.  Only allowing 4 runs the Red Sox rolled into the 6th down by 3.  With a late game push the guys in red managed to put another one on the board to pull within 2.  However it wasn't enough to battle back against the top team in the LMBA,  and the good guys were trumped for the 4th time this season, brining their record to 2 - 4.  However,  the guys in red continued to be a threat this season, and have kept the top team to their lowest run total of the season, making next weeks game against the Athletics a much anticipated one.  Other notables in the game include Justin Peever, the Sox lefty came in relief again and didn't allow a single run for the 4th time this season.  Shortstop Kevin Crowhurst hammered a triple in the early innings of the game, showing once again how much of a threat he is.  All and all the Sox are happy to have their coach back for the next game, and hope to stop their losing streak this Sunday at Queens

A game featuring two of the LMBA's .500 teams, ended in heart break Sunday night as the Good guys failed to mount a strong enough come back against a team they needed to beat.  Kyle Labine took the mound for the good guys, but early inning trouble led to a 3 run first inning and a eventual 7 run lead by the end of the 5th.  Labine pitched really well but could not shut down the Mounties offence giving up only 5 earned runs.  With a shortened staff the Red Sox went 9 up and 9 down in the first 3 innings, prompting their coach to say a few words of inspiration going into the 4th, and with that the Guys in Red woke up a little bit and battled hard the next 4 innings, cashing in 4 and giving the Mounties Defence some much needed work.  Jordan Peever came into the 6th and once again proved to every one why he is on the red sox staff, shutting down the Mounties defence, and not allowing a run in his last 3 innings pitched.  Other Notables in the game were Adam Nordby who was solid in the outfield, definetly saving the Sox from being scored on a few times.  Josh Karls who was injured but still showed up to the game to keep score, and acquire a new Nick name (Hot Karl), was a huge help on the bench.  Both teams defence and pitching did very well, keeping the game tight for most of the match.  All in all it was a very well played game, and with the exception of a bat flying into the backstop on account of lack of pine tar and self control, a pretty uneventful one.  The Red Sox now have a week off before they head across town to face the Jerks of Maple Ridge, a game which promises not to dissapoint.

What was no doubt gearing up to be a showdown of 2 Red Jersey teams, Coach Bettles promised all the players Mothers that if they made the long treck to coquitlam, the Red Sox would not dare disapoint..... And they didn't.  What started out as your average mosquito infested Baseball game, quickly turned into a dominate pitching performance by the Red Sox pitchers. Kyle Labine started out on the mound for the good guys, and pitched by far his best game to date in the sleek red sox uniform, and made quick work
of the Indians lineup.  Allowing no more then 2 hits (one which became camoflauged in the cool forest back drop momentarily paralizing our left fielder, resulting in a pass ball) and 4 strikeouts.  The Red Sox backed up their starter with a hitting show of their own.  Catcher Dan Gabrick went 3 for 5 on the night
slugging in 3 rbi's and scoring a few times himself.  While other notable plate appearances included Josh Karls who got a pair of RbI's, one of which shattered the bright Pink bat.  And Emerson Pendleton who had a couple great hits, and scored a couple times him self.  With a 5 - 0 lead going into the 6th, Lefty Jordan Peever made his second appearance in the sexy Red Sox uniforms,  striking out 7 in four
innings of work, and shutting down the oppositions line up practically one after another, pushing the Red Sox to their 2nd win of the season, elevating the club to .500.  All in all the Red Sox have showed once again why they are undoubtedly the team to watch this year, and are going into next Sundays game against the Mounties riding a 2 game win streak, and a whole bunch of momentum on their side.  As the
good guys look to the practice field this week, theirs no doubt in any bodys mind that Sundays game is going to be a hell of a good one.

Sunday afternoon saw the Red Sox take on the Irish, in what turned out to be a wet sloppy game.  Taking the mound for the good guys, was newly acquired lefty Jordan Peever, making his first start of the season, the lefty struggled at first but eventually found his groove and cruised to a remarkable 10 strike outs in 5 innings of work.  The Red Sox struck first blood in the first, cashing in a run which would stand until the 6th inning. The game was all about pitching, as the Red Sox only allowed 1 hit through the entire game, but only amounted 4 themselves.  The ace for the Irish struck out 8 Red Sox hitters, and was very impressive through his first 5 innings as well.  With a 1 run lead going into the 6th Brad Mckibbon took the mound for the boys in Red, but a constant downpoor and less than acceptable pitching conditions, would see the righty struggle with control and walk 3 batters to load the bases.  With no out and the bases juiced, the Red Sox brought in Righty Tyler Bettles, after walking the first batter he faced, which cashed in a run, the righty settled down, and retired the next 3 Irish hitters, and got out of the inning with only 1 run scored.  With a tie game going into the bottom of the 6th, the Red Sox would get a break when catcher Dan Gabrick was hit in the head with a wild pitch.  That would prove to be the biggest error of the game for the Irish, as pinch runner Emerson Pendleton, would take full advantage of a couple pass balls, and score the go ahead run.  With the lead now regained, and the umpires on the verge of calling the game, the good guys would go one more inning, and give the Irish one last at bats.  But Tyler Bettles would prove to be to much for the Irish, as he retired 3 of the 4 batters he faced in the last inning.  All and all the Red Sox squeaked away with their first win of the season, in what was without a doubt a knock down drag out game.  Our hats are off to both teams who braved the horrible conditions, and made it a game to remember.

On a more serious note,  I would like to extend a request to all Red Sox Players and Fans.  Growing up playing Baseball our whole lives, most of us learned how to throw a ball or swing a bat before we were being taught how to read or write in grade school.  Year after year, game after game, one thing that sticks out in my mind and the minds of alot of our players is the fact that our mothers repeatedly spend Mothers day at the ball park, and being on the West Coast, this is often in the rain.  This year the Red Sox in conjuction with the LMBA and The Canadian Cancer Society are holding a Mothers Day fundraiser and are asking you to donate to help stop this brutal disease.  On Sunday May 9th, the LMBA will be using Pink Bats, not only to show support for our Moms, but to all the other women in our lives, and any one who has ever lost a loved one to Cancer.  Each Player is collecting Donations, and has been given forms with detailed information on this program, and we ask you to join us in the fight against Cancer, because one thing is for sure, we don't want to stop seeing our Moms in the stands any time soon.  So please Donate.
