PLANKINTON � Deric Denning did not allow a hit for Mount Vernon in its 19-1, three-inning victory over Plankinton in a 15-16 year-old VFW baseball game Wednesday night.

Denning struck out five and walked three in three innings. He also drove in four runs at the plate.

Charlie Mahaffey and Bryce Erickson each had two hits and Justin Davis, Brian Vermeulen and Tate Deinert each drove in a run for Mount Vernon (2-0).

Mount Vernon also won the 13-14 year-olds game 18-4.

Mount Vernon plays a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday in Corsica.
