MOUNT VERNON � Mount Vernon beat Corsica 5-3 in the championship game of the I-90 League VFW 15- to 16-year-olds Midseason Tournament on Monday.

Brian Vermeulen allowed two runs in four innings to earn the win for Mount Vernon. Deric Denning earned the save in three innings of work.

Vermeulen and Bryce Erickson each had two hits and Denning hit a solo home run for Mount Vernon.

Lane Thomas took the loss for Corsica. Thomas and Gunner Baan Hofman each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Plankinton beat White Lake/Kimball 7-4 in the third-place game. Alexandria/Emery played Lyman in the fifth-place game, which did not end until after this edition went to press.
