PLANKINTON � Mount Vernon beat Kimball/White Lake 10-0 in five innings in the championship game of the Region 2B 15- and 16-year-old baseball tournament Thursday.
Brian Vermeulen earned the win in five innings of work for Mount Vernon. He allowed three hits and struck out four in five innings.
Vermeulen was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Deric Denning had two hits for Mount Vernon, which also got three RBIs from Cody Renken.
Kimball/White Lake beat Arlington/De Smet 12-2 in five innings earlier in the day.
On Wednesday, K/WL beat Lyman 11-4, White beat Plankinton 14-6, Mount Vernon beat Arlington/De Smet 12-2 and K/WL beat White 8-7.
On Tuesday, Arlington/De Smet beat Plankinton 17-13, White beat Lyman 18-5 in five innings, K/WL beat Arlington/De Smet 9-5 and Mount Vernon beat White 11-1 in six innings.
Mount Vernon and Kimball/White Lake each advance to the state tournament, which runs Aug. 12-14 in Mount Vernon. |
