Jared Lunardi tossed a no-hitter Friday
Jared Lunardi helped Campbellsville University make short work of rival Lindsey Wilson College Friday. The Santa Rosa, Calif., junior tossed a complete game no-hitter to blank the Blue Raiders, 10-0 in five innings after the Tigers took game one of a Mid-South Conference doubleheader, 5-3.

"I couldn't have done it without my catcher, Richie Rowland. He called the signs and I put it in there. Also, without the way my teammates responded in the fifth, we might have had to go seven, and who knows if it would have held up. I felt good though. I wasn't tired."

The no-no was Lunardi's first since tossing one in summer ball during high school. It was also his second stretch of five hit-less innings this season, however his perfect attempt earlier in the year was busted up during a no decision effort.

When game time was pushed back earlier in the day by an hour and a half to help drain the outfield, there was thought the new lights at Tiger Field would be used for the first time. However, Campbellsville needed only four hours to sweep the Blue Raiders and save the lights for the Tigers' first official night game.

Logan Smith capped a seven-run fifth inning for CU with a walk-off walk to 10-run the Blue Raiders in game two and move to 8-1 in Mid-South action.

Alex Ponich, who drove in three runs in the game, put the Tigers on the board in the first inning when he scored on an RBI hit by Rowland. Ponich doubled in a pair or runs in the second inning to put CU up 3-0.

In the first game of the day, senior pitcher Ian Pick (5-0) remained unbeaten on the season as he went the distance for CU's 5-3 win. Pick struck out nine and allowed three runs off eight hits and four walks.

Rowland was the hero of the day offensively, driving in three of the Tigers' five runs in the first game and adding two RBIs in the second game. He singled in a pair of runs in the second inning to give Campbellsville a 3-1 game one lead and later helped score an insurance run in the fifth on a deep, sacrifice fly to left that scored Zac Townsend.

Lindsey Wilson struck first with an RBI single from Max Rhodes in the top of the third that scored Dustin Murphy. Murphy would score again in the top of the fifth, along with Drew Barrett, on RBIs from Rhodes and Jeff Murphy. Pick escaped the fifth inning by stranding Rhodes at third base as the potential game-tying run.

Pick struck out three of four batters faced in the top of the seventh to put Campbellsville in a tie for first place in the Mid-South after St. Catharine lost its first game of the day, 4-1, to Georgetown College. Georgetown also won the night cap and is tied with CU at the top of the MSC standings with one loss each.

The Tigers will host Lindsey Wilson again Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
