Campbellsville native Logan Smith hit .545 for Campbellsville University last week to be named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week, announced Monday.
Smith, a senior designated hitter/catcher, hit a pair of home runs and had 10 RBIs during the Tigers' six-game win streak.
He began the week by nearly hitting for the cycle and reaching base in four of his five plate appearances in a 13-7 win over No. 23 Taylor (Ind.) University last Monday. Smith tripled in his first at bat, hit a three-run home run in his next at bat, then doubled to centerfield. He was hit by a pitch and flew out to deep left centerfield in his other two trips to the plate.
That game started a three-game stretch where he collected three hits in a game and a five-game stretch with a double. He concluded the week with 12 hits, including five doubles and a triple and the two home runs.
Smith is batting .317 this season with three home runs and 30 RBIs.
Lindsey Wilson College pitcher Derek Cape, a Columbia, Ky., native, was named the MSC Pitcher of the Week. He recorded a win and a save during the week.
Campbellsville (22-12) hosts No. 4 Cumberland University on Wednesday. The Tigers are second in the Mid-South with a 13-2 record.
