| What started out a gritty battle of two emerging teams in the LMBA, turned sour mid way through as the Red Sox bats fell silent. Kyle Labine took to the hill for the good guys in his first ever start in a Red Sox uniform on Sunday, allowing only 3 runs on 3 innings of work, as well helping his own cause with a spectacular triple that the young right hander would later call "exhausting". Backing up Kyle with a spectacular diving play up the middle to end an inning and save a for sure run was Kevin Crowhurst who also added a stellar late inning pitching preformance of his own. Adding a highlight reel catch of his own in the top of the 4th, Bjorn Brekke once again proved to the team why hes the man in Centre Field, stopping what undoubtedly would have been a 2 run triple. Catcher Dan Gabrick kept the Cardinals base runners honest, gunning out 3 along the basepaths. Freshly parolled National Football Star Michael Vick made an apperance at Queens Stadium in the 8th, setting off a series of outburst by every dog in the stadium, momentarily throwing off the Cardinals pitching. However the hard hitting Cardinals would prove to be to much for the Red Sox, and the culmination of errors, and bad timing would keep the good guys at bay. The Red Sox no doubt look to build on this game and are more then ready for another gritty game against old rivals the Burnaby Yankees, returning to their old home field for a showdown that promises not to disappoint. So there you have it Red Sox fans, the start of the 2010 season is underway, and although not the start they were looking for, the Red Sox are devoted to bouncing back and kicking some ass in style!! |
