Campbellsville University baseball has added two more signees for 2011. Catcher Anthony Jakosa of Merced College in Northern California and infielder Gibby Briones of Yakima Valley Community College in Washington recently signed to join the Tigers.
Jakosa helped lead Merced Junior College to a conference title in 2009 and was awarded the Rawlings Pacific Coast Region Golden Glove Award. He was also named MVP of the conference gold glove team.

During his last season with the Blue Devils, he posted a .301 batting average through 43 games. He drove in 25 runs, hit three home runs, five doubles and two triples.

"We are really excited that Anthony signed with us. He is a definite throw back catcher in the fact that he is an outstanding catch and throw guy. I think Anthony does as good as job as anybody behind the plate. There is no doubt that he will make an immediate impact defensively to our club and will add some offensive production as well," CU assistant coach Chris Lewis said.

Briones is currently hitting .382 for Yakima Valley and hit .330 last season as a freshman using wood bats. He was named a First Team All-Eastern Region selection. In high school, Briones was named MVP of his team as a junior and senior. He hit .402 as a senior while starting at shortstop in 2008. The past three summers, he has played for the Yakima Beetles summer league team. He hit .432 in 2009 with the Beetles and was named MVP of the Fourth of July Firecracker Wood Bat Tournament, where he went 12-0f-18 from the plate with four doubles and a triple. He also received the Gold Glove Award for the Lewiston, Idaho tournament.

"Gibby is extremely offensive and will add an immediate impact into our lineup. He has the ability to play anywhere in the infield, can play in outfield and may also pitch a little for the Tigers. We are extremely excited to sign Gibby and have no doubt he will be a difference maker," Lewis said.
