Campbellsville earns an automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament and to one of the nine opening round sites May 12-15 with today's win.
The top-seeded Tigers (35-9) scored three times in the top of the first and never trailed en route to the win. Second-seeded Georgetown (32-22) cut the lead to 3-2 before Campbellsville scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to grab a 7-2 lead. The Tigers hit four homeruns on the day. Colin Bryan hit his 5th, Jimmy Voelker his 8th, and Chris Curley broke the Campbellsville single season homerun record, hitting his 17th and 18th.
Georgetown would score twice in the fifth and once in the sixth, but could get no closer as Campbellsville captures its fifth straight tournament championship.
Campbellsville learns its opening round opponent and site on Friday, May 8, as the NAIA announces the 46-team national tournament. Five teams per site will participate in a double-elimination tournament with the nine winners joining Avista-NAIA World Series host Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho May 22-29 for the national championships.
