Posted Apr 24/11 - Cologne Clips the Red Birds 12 - 7

The Cologne Hollanders visited Storm Red Bird Stadium on Saturday (4/23) afternoon and picked on the Red Birds pitching staff for a 12 - 7 victory.  The Red Birds held a 3-1 advantage through 6 innings, but the early season wildness from the local hurlers allowed 2 runs in the 7th and 8 more in the 8th with the help of 4 hits, 4 walks, and 4 hit batters.

The Red Birds mounted a mini-rally in the bottom of the 9th with 4 runs, but fell short of the visitors.  Chanhassen got 10 hits, to Cologne's 7, but the walks and hit batters accounted for 9 of the 12 Hollander runs for the game.

Assistant Coach Bobby Krzmarzick deserves credit for getting 17 players into the non-league game, and put 6 different pitchers on the mound during the game.  Though it's still non-league games, the feisty Red Birds look to have some grit and tenacity for keeping their heads in the game.

Next game is Friday night, April 29th, against the Carver Black Sox.  The Game will be played at Minnetonka High School's Veteran's Field with a 7:00 PM start.

Next Home game for the Chanhassen Red Birds is Saturday, April 30th with a 2:30 PM start against the visiting Glencoe Brewers.
