Posted Jun 13/11 - Meire Grove 9, Flames 7

Meire Grove scored a total of seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings in route to a hard-fought 9-7 victory over the Flames on Sunday afternoon, at Farming.

Farming took an early 2-1 in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Brent Mergen.   Craig Klein follwed with another two-run single in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-1.

With Farming down 8-5 in the sixth inning, the Flames put together a nice rally.  Zach Posterick led off with a walk.  With Craig Klein batting, Zach stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Craig's groundout.  Greg Holthaus followed with a double to left, and then went to third on a wild pitch.  John Theis struck out, but reached safely on a passed ball, and Craig scored on the play.  After a pop-up for the second out, Brad Mergen doubled to right, putting runners on second and third.  However, another popup ended the inning.

Farming had the bats going in this competetive game, amassing a total of 12 hits.  Craig Klein, Ryan Schleper, and Greg each had two hits, while Chad Mergen, Craig Rausch, Brent, Brad Mergen, John Theis, Zach Posterick, and Ian Hoffarth all had one hit.

The Mergen brothers, Chad, Brent, and Brad, all pitched for Farming.  Other than a few control issues in the middle innings, the pitching help up pretty well.  This was Brad's first game back after coming home from college, and he struck out seven in five innings of work.

Farming now goes on the road in this coming week for three games: Wednesday at Avon, 6:30pm; Saturday at Richmond, 1:30pm; and Sunday at Greenwald, 1:30pm.
