Posted Jul 24/11 - Flames 4, Richmond 1

Farming clinched their first trip to the Region 15C tournament since 2002 with a solid 4-1 win over Richmond.  Brad Mergen went the distance for the Flames, striking out 18 and walking three.  Richmond managed just two hits on the afternoon.

The Flames got on the board first in the third inning.  Ian Hoffarth walked, and Zach Posterick reached on a single.  Craig Klein, who's been hot recently, laced a triple to the left-center fence, scoring both Ian and Zach.  In the fifth inning, Zach reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a line single by Craig Klein.  Craig had three RBI's on the afternoon.

The Flames scored their final run in the sixth on a long home run by Chris Wehseler.  Chris has been battling injuries this summer, and it's good to see him back swinging the bat well again.

Craig and Chris finished the afternoon with two hits apiece, while Zach, John Theis, and Brad Mergen had the other hits for Farming.   Four of the seven Farming hits were for extra bases, always a good sign come playoff time.

Next up for the Flames will be the seeding game against the winner of Saturday's game between Lake Henry and Richmond.  The seeding game will take place on Sunday, 1:30pm, on the road.

Congratulations to the team on another well-played game and an excellent playoff run.  We'll have a good crowd making the trip over to Spicer, no doubt about that!
