The Red Birds played 5 games in 8 days to get the #2 Seed in the Central Division heading into Regional Play. With 5 days of rest after losing to Belle Plaine last Saturday, the Chanhassen team should be eager to take on the Saints with hopes of moving past the regionals and heading to the State Tournament hosted by the Glencoe Brewers and the Brownton Bruins beginning August 19th.
For the Red Birds to make it, they will have to play their best baseball of the year. The other teams in the region tournament are the Fairfax Cardinals, (who beat Chanhassen at Fairfax earlier in the year by a score of 5-4), St. Peter Saints (who the Red Birds beat earlier this year at Storm Red Bird Stadium by a score of 2-1), and of course Belle Plaine Tigers, whom the Red Birds have played 6 times over the last two years and have yet to break through with a win.
The best speculation by Red Birds manager Chris Reuvers is "It will come down to us and Belle Plaine again."
First step is "Beat the Saints" at St. Peter on Friday night at 8:00 PM.
