Farming posted its first league win of the season on Sunday afternoon, beating the visiting St. Martin Martins 4-3.
The Flames scored two runs in the third inning. Chad Mergen led off with a double, and Zach Posterick walked. Derrick Roush doubled to left, scoring Chad and putting Zach on third. Craig Klein followed with a sacrifice fly to score Zach.
The game stayed 2-0 until the sixth inning, when St. Martin scored its first run. Starting pitcher Zach Posterick minimized the damage by stranding runners at second and third. However, St. Martin took the lead in the seventh inning by scoring two more runs.
The scored stayed 3-2 St. Martin until the bottom of the eighth. Derrick Roush was hit by a pitch. Craig Klein sacrificed Derrick to second, and Chris Wehseler walked. Both runners moved up on a past ball, then Derrick scored on another passed ball to tie the game. Ian Hoffarth's single scored Chris with the game winning run.
Zach started and pitched 6 1/3 solid innings for Farming. Craig Raush pitched 1 2/3 innings to get the win, and Chad Mergen pitched the ninth for the save. With the win, Farming improves 1-3 in the SCL South, and moves ahead of St. Martin in the standings.
