The Flames took advantage of excellent pitching, some nice plays in the field, and a key hit to defeat Elrosa 2-1 on a beautiful, sunny afternoon in Farming.
Zach Posterick went the first seven innings, giving up just one run on two hits to earn the win. Zach walked four and struck out seven. Chad Mergen pitched two scoreless inning to record the save.
Farming scored both of their runs in the fifth inning. Craig Rausch reached on an error, and Ryan Schleper pinch-ran. Chad Mergen reached on an error, putting runners at first and second. Zach hit into a force at third, and Derrick Roush singled to load the bases. After an infield popup for the second out, Chris Wehseler ripped a two-run single to left, scoring Chad and Derrick.
The defense made some excellent plays to preserve the win. Derrick saved a home run in the eighth inning when he ran hard into the fence to make a great catch. Josh Linn ended the game with an outstanding running catch in left center, saving at least one run and possibly two.
After an 0-3 start, the Flames have won four conecutive league games and now stand 4-3 for the year. This is already more league wins then the club had in either 2010 or 2011.
The Flames host St. Wendel on Friday night at 6:30pm. On Sunday, Greenwald comes to town for a 1:30pm start. The team is playing well - come out and support 'em.
