Posted Jun 16/12 - Red Birds Tame the Tigers, 8 - 1
Chanhassen Red Birds visited Hilltop Park in Henderson and took advantage of good weather, sollid pitching from Andrew Roy and opportunistic hitting from the top of the order.

Andrew Roy pitched his 3rd complete game in three starts to get his 2nd win.  He allowed just one run on three hits, getting 5 strikeouts while allowing only 1 walk.  Seven of the 9 innings, Roy retired the side 1-2-3; throwing just 102 pitches and finishing the game in 1 hour and 52 minutes.

Zach Swenson got three hits in 5 plate appearances, including a lead off solo homerun in the 5 run 6th inning for the Red Birds.  Jeff Pavlovich went 2-3 with 3 runs scored, including a lead off double with the first pitch of the game.  John Gulden then drove Jeff home with a single to left field to open the scoring in the top of the 1st.
After Zach opened the top of the 6th with the Solo Homerun to right center, Justin Thompson took the first pitch on his arm for a free pass to first.  Justin Kurth Singled to right to move JT to 2nd.  Leary's wild pitch bounced past the catcher and both runners moved up a base.  Mike Cerjance then lifted a sacrifice fly ball to right field and Justin slid under the tag at home to give the Red Birds their 4th run of the game.
After Kemble flied to right, another wild pitch advanced Kurth to 3rd base.  Jeff Pavlovich then walked and reached second on defensive indifference.   TJ Gulden then lined a grounder down the 3rd base line that scored Kurth and Pavlovich.  John Gulden launched a fly ball over the right fielders head that scored TJ and landed John on second with a double.  7-0 Redbirds after 6 innings.
Red Birds got their last run in the top of the 7th when Zach Swenson singled to left for his third straight hit.  Justin Thompson then doubled to right center to put Zach on 3rd base, and he scored on Kurth's sacrifice fly to left field to complete the scoring for the Red Birds.
Andrew Roy retired 19 of the last 20 Tigers eh faced.  A masterful pitching performance for the 2nd year hurler from St. Olaf, out of Minnetonka High School.  He faced just 31 batters in the 9 innings, and showed great control walking only one batter and throwing 17 first pitch strikes, allowing only two runners past 1st base.

T. J. Gulden got two hits, scored once, and drove in two runs in 4 plate appearances.  The Two Justins, (Thompson and Kurth) each got one hit, scored once and Kurth got an RBI on a Sac fly to left field in the 6th.

NEXT GAME:  Tomorrow (Sunday) evening the Red Birds host the Belle Plaine Tigers and hope to get a win against the only team that has thwarted the Red Birds through the first three seasons.  Game time - 6:00 PM.
